What if you looked at the snacks as mini meals instead? It might help you come up with options.

If you can have eggs, a hard boiled egg is a good choice, you can do some nitrate free ham and cheese roll ups, greek yogurt or ricotta cheese with fruit and shredded wheat, lite english muffin with cream cheese?

@babycanuck: what about oat flour, rice flour, amaranth, etc? There are lots of grains that are gluten free.

You could make granola with oatmeal and quinoa for a breakfast/snack.

@Cole: I've been working spelt into our home life as my husband is a very "white bread, meat and potatoes" kind of guy. Slowly but surely! I love it but he doesn't handle change well.

I don't have any allergies & I know that must make things extra difficult!

What about string cheese or yogurt? Those are two of my favorite snacks. Also have you tried hummus or dip of some kind to make raw veggies more appealing? My husband will eat all kinds of raw veggies: carrots, celery, peppers, cucumbers etc. if I give him something yummy to dip them in! ;)

Popcorn is always a good filling snack. We like the 100 calorie natural bags.

Is there a reason you are trying to avoid gluten flours? Some of the older grains (spelt, amaranth and even some varieties of wheat) have great nutritional profiles, you just don't want to be eating a whole loaf of bread  .

My husband is allergic to peanuts and all legumes so it knocks a lot of basic options out for him too.

I will try to think of some good options though and get back to you.

I am allergic to tree nuts, pineapple and gluten so I feel your frustration!!! Snack foods have always been the hardest!
Have you tried dehydrated fruit? They are my go to snack on the go. I have a bag of mangos in the car, in my desk. I get the organic, not covered in powdered sugar. My dehydrated apples are 120 calories for 10 pieces.
My other go-to is popcorn, air popped with a small amount of butter or just sprinkled cheese. I also eat a handful of chex for a snack at work.
Other then that I usually have snap peas, carrots, hummus, apples, banana in my lunch bag on most days!

I'm really trying to make a conscious effort to eat in a healthier way. My biggest problem is that I have a peanut and tree nut allergy. Since I have that, I can't substitute gluten flours with almond flour, I can't snack on nuts for all the great things they offer, etc.

I eat a lot of fresh fruit, not a huge raw veggie person. I get stuck on things I can snack on more than anything.

Help me be healthier, bees!
