@Silva: @Cherrybee: Thanks! Hah, I think it really is a generational thing. And, on a different note, food recommendations can be so confusing. I had no idea about the vitamin A. Hah, maybe now I can console myself that since it could, maybe be bad (vit A is fat soluble, so I think it sticks around for awhile), I am not doing any great travesty to myself or future offspring by not eating it :wink: Cow hearts/lamb livers/etc really do not sound appealing - though I'm sure they could be if cooked the right way - it really doesn't help that I'm like the world's laziest cook :wink:

@Cherrybee: interesting! I knew it was high in vitamin a, but I've heard from my doctors that it's safe to eat during pregnancy! Funny how different the recommendations can be!

@Silva: Liver is on the pregnancy avoid list over here because of high levels of vitamin A. Although I'm sure its fine during TTC.....

You could look into the Weston price diet recommendations. There is also a cookbook: nourishing traditions, which follows his recommendations. They recommend liver on a weekly/bi-weekly basis for pregnant women, and I did find some sites online that talk about its usefulness for improving fertility.

Oh my god, organ meat! What a way to put it!!;

My dad used to love lambs hearts casseroled slowly in gravy. I think beef hearts are a bit tough. Does liver count? I like lambs liver fried with bacon and fried onions. Kidneys in a steak and kidney pie, perhaps?

I see lots of talk on here about taking CoQ10 to improve egg quality. I'd never heard of it before, but it seems to be important for a lot of health things, regardless of how significant the benefits are to egg quality. Like with all vitamins/minerals, it would be most ideal to get it through food, and then supplement if that's not possible (because supplements can be less bio-available).

By far the best way to get CoQ10 is through organ meat, in particularly beef heart. Yum, yum. Anyone eat this? If so, how do you prepare it? I remember my grandmother was really into eating organ meat at least once a week for health reasons, apparently it was the norm back in the 1950s. Maybe there's something to it... I get meat from a local farmer, and they will give bits for free as otherwise they just get tossed. But maybe I should just buy the supplement! Curious to hear other perspectives....
