Exercise but I hate it, hate it, hate it. It is painful! However it is liberating not to worry about my weight. I just don't bother to pay attention anymore and have never been happier.

@Mrs. Lion: I agree for health and to have a strong body you need to exercise...restricting diet only makes you skinny fat. Doing both is ideal for sure. I loved how I looked when I was working out 4 times a week but the only time I had an absolutely flat stomach was when I also restricted my diet and cut carbs

@Leialou: haha well @MsLipGloss: and I were discussing thigh gap in the weight loss thread :) I actually don't care either however that's the thing- I was getting chaffing for awhile wearing dresses. I mostly wear bike shorts under my dresses now for comfort!!

@sandy: maybe, but muscle burns more calories, and after high intensity exercise your body keeps burning long after you stop.

I think for most people diet is easier to change, but for real health and long term weight loss i really do think you have to do both.

I donno. I think if it's someone with bad diet and bad exercise then diet will have more effect first. But after a certain point at least for me I don't lose weight unless I have a solid muscle tone and am really working out (like getting out of breath cardio, muscle burning lifting).

At the point of not just eating junk food but getting square meals - getting a solid workout is much much better for me both physically and mentally than trying to avoid a cookie or keep cutting out calories. I also like how I look and I feel better when I focus on exercise than dietary restriction.

Weight loss definitely happens quicker with changing your diet...you can consume 1,000 so easily but it's hard work to burn that amount off with exercise. So if you're able to change with you eat you can cut out calories so much faster than you can burn it off.

@grizz: apparently it's reeeeally common to gain weight because the body needs so many calories to fuel for the intense load of distance running (or any other similar training programme). I think there's a tipping point between eating and exercising for losing or maintaining weight and eating and exercising for training - hope that made sense!

Definitely go hand in hand. However, if you watch your diet and not exercise you may see more success than if you exercise and not eat right. (Most likely on an already sedentary, overweight individual).

Diet. The last time I seriously exercised was back in college. With diet alone, I have been able to maintain my weight, and I'm happy with that. I don't have the time or dedication to exercise regularly, but one day I will get back on track.
