I introduced a pacifier on about day 3, we are EBF and haven't any issues (despite inverted nipples and a high arched palate). Sawyer loves to suck, and gets angry when offered the breast when not hungry (probably because I overproduced in the beginning and being at the breast too much made him overfull and uncomfortable). Sawyer mostly uses it to fall asleep at this point, and we hope to wean it off at around 1 year of age.

Our pediatrician told us to only use pacifiers with a straight nipple (like the one shown above) because the ones that are sort of curved/angled can mess up a breast fed baby's latch.

I introduced it within the first week. she uses it to soothe herself when she goes down for naps and bedtime. She will ONLY take it when she is tired because now she associates it with sleep which is what we wanted. She is ebf and we never had any problems with breastfeeding.

yes we introduced a pacifier while exclusively breastfeeding. LO doesnt like pacifiers at all but i kept trying different brands because I wanted her to have something to soothe herself when she started daycare. She loves the orthodontic pacifiers by avent and its been fine since then. Prior to her arrival I said I would give my child a pacifier, hopefully I can wean her off it before she walks.

LO is EBF, and she won't take a paci. I was anxious about giving her one in the beginning because I was afraid of nipple confusion, so I think I waited too long to introduce it. I think I first tried at around 8 weeks? She acts like it's the most disgusting thing ever when I try to give it her. She gags and makes a gross face. But I don't really mind that she doesn't take it, she's just uses her fingers instead!

I EBF and never gave LO a paci. I'm pretty sure #2 will get one though!

We introduced one at 5 weeks because half the time my son was using me as a pacifier instead of nursing to eat. It took awhile to find the right one (MAM worked for us) but it has been a big help.

We tried giving LO a pacifier from the beginning but she has never taken to it. There were times we wished she'd take it and we'd just hold it in her mouth...but now she uses her hands. Though she definitely uses me as a paci sometimes.

We gave her one between 3-4 weeks. She's never really used it much, but she's starting to use it less and less. Now she only uses it occasionally when she's falling asleep in our arms. Even then she spits it out after a minute or two.

@Mrs.B: same as you, was vehemently against pacifiers. But it's been a lifesaver for car rides because there's nothing else I can do when she gets fussy in the car! Funny thing is she only really takes it in the car and will still initially spit it back out.

I BF and supplement with formula.

My LO had a strong need to suck. She would use me as a pacifier, fall asleep and would scream as soon as I unlatched her. So I either could give her the breast back or stick a pacifier in. I gave in to the pacifier so that my nipples wouldn't be sore all the time.

ETA: She usually spits it out within a minute or two of falling asleep.

LO is almost 7 months...I gave her a pacifier when we came home from the hospital. She found her thumb around 3 months and has rejected pacis since then!

Originally I thought I wouldn't even bother buying pacifiers because I truely do not want LO to use them but now I'm second guessing that choice. DS had a paci and ended up using it as his security item. We just weaned him off of it this past January at 3 years old. He still occasionally asks for his "binki" at night time but no longer is upset by it's absence, Did you give your EBF baby a pacifier? When did you introduce it and what were/are your reasons for giving LO the pacifier?

ETA: DS was formula fed but this LO is going to be EBF as I am a SAHM now.
