Our LC seems to think it could be the dairy in our donor milk (but, she's only had 10 ounces of it, and not for a few days). I eat a lot of soy, so I'm just going to wait and see if any other symptoms pop up.

She's still gaining and seems happy. LC agreed there is just a wide range of normal. The internet has me considering viruses, food sensitivities, jaundice, etc. Ha!!

Green can be as simple as, the milk just went through baby's system and got digested quickly. I thought it always meant foremklk / hindmilk imbalance or food intolerance, but my pediatrician told me it doesn't always mean that so don't worry.

I'd give the pediatrician a call to see what they think.

@littlejoy: if that's freash, it could be dairy. How's LO acting? If she's gaining weight and seems happy, I'd hold off eliminating dairy

Baby poop can be any color other than white, black or red. Unless it's associated with any other symptoms I wouldn't stress over it!

@littlejoy: This might be a weird question, but the picture you posted, was that a fresh poop? I've found EBF poop changes from yellow to green pretty quickly in cloth diapers (and now realize it happens in disposables too, but we don't notice that because we toss them right away, rather than saving up to wash.) So if that's been an hour or two sitting it could explain why it's green...

If it's green like that coming out and you're confident you're not providing her with too much foremilk, it could be the composition of the donor's milk. Are you making sure you're mixing in the fatty layer really well?

My DD had some green poops and does have a dairy intolerance but they didn't look quite like that. More slimy/mucousy and a deeper green. Doesn't mean it couldn't still be a dairy intolerance, but I think mucous would likely be involved too.

Normal. My son had that for a few days them it went back to mustardy. I don't think it's a food intolerance.

@littlejoy: that's what my kid's poo looked like! I block fed after for a few days, but then heard from a lactation consultant it could damage supply and got scared so went back to feeding from both sides/on demand. I didn't change my diet or anything and it just eventually went away and she never seemed uncomfortable. I later changed my diet when she started getting gross mucus poos, but they were yellow and seemed unaffected by my diet change.

Hope you figure it out soon. How's her mood?

@littlejoy: At a glance that looks more like a food intolerance. Here's the thing- in an EBF baby, poop should be yellow most of the time. If it's green for just a few days it could be a reaction to a random food or a virus, but all in all, yellow is the color we're looking for. If there's formula involved then all bets are off and a "range of normal" is fine.
The other thing I wanted to mention, is that if your first LO was reacting to dairy it is highly likely that a younger LO will as well (not necessarily in the same way, but these things tend to run in the family).

@Mrs. Microscope: block feeding wouldn't work for us. I have a really low supply. It would damage my supply, and she'd be super hungry.

My experience was similar to what @Mrs. Goose: mentions except that most days my baby had at least one yellow poop in there. But they were green for a while as we got used to nursing. No one was concerned because growth and eating and everything else were fine.

I've had oversupply issues in the past so I used block feeding from the beginning this time (and still had green poop) but I wouldn't block feed if you have concerns about your supply.

I agree with observing texture and behaviour. My first had green poops for a month (they didn't go between yellow and green, every poo was green) starting around 3 weeks and the midwife said it was fine as long as she was happy and weight gain was continuing properly. I find breastfeeding poo can vary a lot.

@Mrs. Microscope: It's just green ... not frothy or stringy. I don't consume dairy, but our donor does. I'll look into this (our first baby had a dairy allergy, which is why I initially went vegan) - we ended up needing to supplement, so we had to use soy formula. She was ok with it. Thanks for reminding me about mpsi - I'll keep an eye on it!!

Look at texture. Green frothy can be a foremilk / hindmilk imbalance. Green and stringy or mucousy can be a sign of mspi.

LO2 is 18 days old, and until a few days ago, she had normal poops (mechonium for the first few days, then yellow). The last few days, they've been avocado green (maybe a tiny bit more yellow than avocado).

Internet tells me lime green can be imbalance of milk, but this is often due to oversupply. I have a very, very fragile supply, and I'm confident baby is draining each breast pretty effectively. She's gaining weight slowly, but still gaining (above birth weight yesterday). We are using a little bit of donor milk as well, but it looks like there's a good amount of fat.

Does that avocado green sound normal? LO1 was formula fed, so this is new territory.
