My doctor recommended I add at least 400 calories to my diet for breastfeeding. I'm struggling to eat enough though. Since D was born, I haven't had much of an appetite. I pretty much have to force myself to eat.

I am EBF my 4.5-month old and I eat a TON. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and at least one morning and afternoon snack, plus something in the evening before I go to bed. I basically eat every time I feel hungry, which is very often. I try to keep my snacks healthy but filling -- nuts and cheese, trail mix, yogurt with granola, homemade lactation cookies. Maybe try eating more protein to stay full?

@illumina: I totally ate a larabar in the middle of the night until LO was 3 months or so!

I do second breakfast, just like a hobbit. I have oatmeal and fruit at 7am when LO has her breakfast, then I get an egg and bacon muffin when I get to work at 9am, right before I pump. I usually have two afternoon snacks in addition to lunch - a banana or granola bar at 3pm and some seaweed snacks and babybell cheese when I get home around 5.30pm.

Basically, I eat constantly. I get dizzy and hangry if I don't.

I know (especially in the early days) I was just starving, morning noon and night. Tons of fat was really critical - can you add some full fat yogurt or milk to your diet? Or maybe some crusty bread dipped in olive oil. Carbs were also hugely important. I also just needed way, way more food. Even now (my daughter is 24 months old), nursing just a few times a day, I still eat far more than I would if she weren't nursing.

Yeah I snack all day. I would never be full on only one snack of a banana. Then again, I've always been a snacker rather than eating big meals. Now I do both! :)

I feel like I eat a to be and rarely am I full. I eat three meals and lots of snacks. I try to choose healthy options to snack on. For the first couple months I pretty much always had a snack at night feedings too.

I'm not sure I'm the best example, my eating habits are horrible. But, I can definitely tell you that I am never full. I feel like I have to eat more than usual or I feel like I'm starving.

I think I am eating well (enough!) during the day, but overnight I am shoveling in at least one breakfast cereal bar at each night waking. Is this normal? Is there something else I should be eating or changing my schedule during the day so I feel fuller overnight?

Here is what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast: bowl of porridge
Lunch: chicken, pepper and onion tagliatelle
Afternoon snack: banana
Dinner: chicken breast, chorizo slices and boiled new potatoes

I know nothing when it comes to nutrition so am just eating the kind of meals I would pre-baby.

I put this in Breastfeeding, not sure if it's the correct board!
