Pumping is a PITA and LO has never taken issue with a bottle. In the beginning I pumped after he nursed first thing in the morning and built up a little stash and since then have just pumped if he got a bottle. I have probably.. I don't know 30 oz in the freezer for an emergency. He eats solids now so it wouldn't be as much of a panic if I had to be gone for a day or something. I probably ought to pump and give him a bottle this weekend... I need to pay attention to how old some of the milk I have is and cycle it!

I don't mind pumping, but if we are at home I'd rather nurse directly. C is pretty good about taking a bottle though and don't want to lose that if I can help it. My supply seems normal- not an oversupply by any means, but we don't struggle with low supply.

I like the idea of a couple of days worth in the freezer for emergencies or nights away. I guess keeping it up four days a week but only giving her half of what I pump and freezing the rest could work.

I pumped once a day for the first few weeks/first month or two. After that, it was very sporadic...I also rarely gave bottles because I was never away from him for long. He started hating bottles around 3 months, and only started tolerating them around 8 months, so in between I just scheduled outings around his feedings.

I now pump nightly because he gets a bottle of pumped milk after our bedtime nursing session. I hate pumping and I hate cleaning bottles--I wouldn't pump at all if I didn't need to.

I pumped a lot at first to help supply, but after first 12 weeks I settled into a pumping routine very similar to @ree723, about 5 times a week if P didn't finish a feed. Then around 6 months I just pumped at around 9pm about 5 nights a week. P refused bottles between 8 weeks and 10 months (!!) so I ended up donating my milk. Then she started taking EBM in a sippy (thank goodness as I was heading back to work part time) and so I pumped at work roughly when I would've fed her.

I always pumped when she had a bottle/sippy to keep my supply up as I've always struggled supply wise.

@ree723, @oliviaoblivia: I am sooooo jealous right now of your babies' sleeping! Penny finally started sleeping through the night before she turned 1. Sigh. :)

I have an emergency stash only, maybe 50oz. I pump 3-4 oz at night after LO goes to bed. She's almost eight months and has only had two bottles. I hate cleaning bottles.

@Ree723: L's sleep and eating is the same. Makes life with an infant easy. They really must have been separated at birth.

I started pumping after a feed once per day, four or five days per week. If LO started on the right, drained it, and then took a bit from the left, I'd pump the left immediately afterwards to empty it, then would start the next feed on the right again instead of alternating. I made sure to vary my pumping side and didn't do it every day as I didn't want to HAVE to pump every day.

Honestly though, I built up a sizeable stash and ended up throwing most of it away once it got too old! LO hated taking bottles and I hated preparing/cleaning them, so it was always easier and more enjoyable to feed her myself. I also must add that she she slept 12 hrs overnight by 10 weeks and was down to 6-8 feeds during the day, so it wasn't an overly demanding schedule. Had she been a more frequent feeder, we may have used pumped milk more often.

I actually built up quite a stash with the hope that we can eventually drop nursing sessions and he can take bottles more often so DH can help. Maybe one or two a day in the next few months after he is eating solids. Plus he takes bottles at the gym or when my mom babysits and this way I know the milk is already in th freezer and I'm not scrambling to pump that morning.

I was pumping twice a day, once in the morning before he woke up and once after he went to bed. I have enough in the freezer that I am going to drop the evening session now and pump once a day.

Also, I do pump when he takes a bottle to keep up my supply and I put that in the freezer to replace whatever bottles he takes.

If you EBF and are a sahm, what was your routine with pumping and bottle feeding?

Since I'm not going back to work I'm not worried about building a huge freezer stash but I do want some so I don't have to worry about being gone for a few hours, and I want her to be used to taking a bottle. I've been pumping about 3-4 times a week, and usually we've given her the bottles either while we are out and it's more convenient (though I'm getting pretty comfortable with nursing I public with a cover) or if I am super tired. I have two 2-3 oz bags in the freezer now and 3 bottles in the fridge.

Wondering how others manage this.
