@Sammyfab: lol, that is one pound almost! But yes, sometimes I can only get an ounce! This week I was hand expressing, easily got 2 oz one day (I only brought 2 oz bottles) but later that week I tried to express milk and got less than 1/4 ounce! 2 hours later I got my 2oz so I could go shopping with grandma and leave LO with the guys.
@c.sassy: Your LO must sleep a lot! I go to bed as soon as LO goes down for the night. No night time pumping or me unless LO is awake and won't go back to sleep.
@cvbee: ditto, I tend to only pump when there's a lot in there and my little guy usually only takes one side per feeding.
@Mrsdaredevil: How is she eating now?

@cvbee: yep, lately she doesn't go longer than 2.5 hours between feedings. And randomly the last couple days she has started eating on both sides!

PS. The once ounce per hour thing makes sense for what I get out. I only feed one boob at a session, and LO goes fairly long between sessions now, so that's why I get so much.

MrsDaredevil, your LO probably just eats more frequently, so you don't end up filling up as much.

I pump until the bag or bottle is full, and for me that is more than 5 ounces....maybe 6. And that's just one boob.

BUT I only pump when I've got a lot in there. Once recently I pumped when I had a medium amount in there (still felt 'full') and I only got 4 ounces.

When I first started pumping I would get so much - almost 5oz per boob. Then I stopped pumping around 3 months. Around this time LO was only nursing 5 times per day and not nursing at night. I started pumping again at 6 months when we introduced solids and I could barely get an ounce! Now I make sure to drink tons of water and drink the mother's milk tea. I pump once before I go to bed and I get about an ounce on my left side and 2-3 ounces on my right side even though I pump twice as long in my left side.

I just went back to work last week, so I'm still getting used to pumping and figuring out the logistics of it. So far, I've been pumping at 9AM (I breastfeed her around 630AM), which usually yields around 10 OZ total. Then I'll breastfeed her anywhere between noon - 2PM (my husband brings her to me so I can feed her), and depending on what time I fed her, I'll usually pump again around 3 or 3:30PM (if I fed her late, I'll just skip the afternoon pump session since I get home by 5PM and feed her as soon as I get home). The afternoon session usually yields about 5 OZ total.

@runsyellowlites: I thought you were exclusively pumping now?

@Mrsdaredevil: hmm I wonder if the problem is because you only use a manual pump? I could never get anything out with those things! And it hurt like heck.

I have both a medela double electric pump and a small $40 single electric pump - with both I can get anywhere from 2-5oz per side. I can usually count on at least 5 oz.

A doctor at the breastfeeding clinic told me that the average mom will pump out .5 oz per boob per hour since breastfeeding. So 1 oz for every hour. This woman told me that she sniffed her daughter's sleeper the entire time she pumped and got out an extra 2 oz!

I will usually get out more if i pump during the day as opposed to the evening when supply is usually lower.

I have tendency to have oversupply so I really try not to pump. Last time I pumped though, probably 10wks pp, I got around 5-9oz each breast right after her morning feeding (my L is always way less than my right). I imagine if I pumped now it would be less but then I'd end up engorged again consider I was feel kinda low so I drank a cup of mmt yesterday & bam was full again this morning :-/. I really want to pump so DD can spend some time with grandma but I get engorged for days from just one session & that hurts :(

I'm not the norm though & I've heard it can take upwards of 6 months for oversupply issues to really, completely, level out.

It totally depends. I get from 1-15 oz per boob. If I pump at 4am when LO is up and being a fussy pants, I get a LOT. If I pump during the day, I get almost nothing. Sometimes I pump and actually get nothing (or just drops). I pump about once every 3 days to once a day.

ETA: One to fifteen oz... not a typo.

I EBF all day and LO gets a bottle before bed so I pump about an hour after he goes to bed. That's usually 3-4 hours from his last nursing session and I get 2-4 oz.

I've tried pumping an hour after his morning feed and I got less than 10ml!!! I felt like it was such a waste of my time!

@babynumber1: Yep. That darn lazy boob. I've been able to increase the supply in that breast a bit by doing 2 morning feedings from that breast--so I feed LO at 6 am, pump the left side, and then feed her again at 7:45/8 before I leave for work. It still makes much less than the left side, though.

@Mrsdaredevil: Ha! I didn't think it was a lot, but I'm realizing that it is now. I had oversupply issues with LO in the beginning. She also eats often! She'll only eat 2-3 times while I'm away at work and 7-8 times with me, so she's keeping my supply up. I pump more than she eats without me (she eats 12 oz. total while I'm at work) so my freezer stash is growing a lot!

I probably pump more than occasionally but here goes. I pump the side she doesn't feed on in the a.m., twice at work, and sometimes once before I go to bed. (This is only during the work week, right now I work 4 days a week).

I get anywhere from 3 oz. to 9 oz. a session. My first double pump of the day at work at 10:30 a.m. normally produces the largest amount of the day, between 6 and 9 oz. And my left breast produces more than my right breast, so I'll have 4 oz. on one side and 2 on the other.

I just started back at work this week and pump four times a day, every 2 hours. I start in the morning getting 3oz between both, then by my last session at 3p I was getting 1-1.5oz. I started taking fenugreek 2 days ago and now that is up to 4oz my first session and 2-3 for each other session.

Thats a little more than you asked I guess. lol
