Also, if your LO is flying as a lap baby (which is not recommended because the safest way to fly is strapped in a carseat), the extra leg room from economy plus makes a world of difference. It is hard to hold a squirming baby in regular economy.

@Bookish: United does not have priority boarding for families with children. So if you are Group 3 or 4 for boarding, expect to inch along the aisle to get to the back of the plane, waiting as everyone in front of you puts their carryon items in the overhead compartments. And don't expect to find much space left in the overhead compartments by the time you finally get to your row.

I avoid United now because my LO hated the boarding process and would fuss in my arms the entire time. I was such a stressed out wreck by the time I would get to my seat. it was such a huge difference the first time I flew an airline that had priority boarding for families (after I strapped him in his carseat, I would sit back and relax while watching hundreds of people inch along the aisle past me)

So if I were you, I would pay for economy plus just to get to my row faster and to get off the plane faster. It is worth paying up for the convenience and sanity.

We flew United Economy + to Puerto Rico with LO in March. I think the extra room was definitely worth it. I didn't realize how often I'd be reaching down to get things out of my diaper bag and crossing my legs to give LO a wider lap to nurse/sleep in. Plus, I often find the last row of the plane to be incredibly crowded with lines of people waiting to use the bathroom. It makes me feel even more claustrophobic :meh:

We used to fly United Economy + pretty frequently with DH's status. Let's just say I got really used to it and when were had to fly regular old coach again, I definitely noticed the missing legroom, and I am not tall! It's probably not worth the extra $ to get off of the flight faster unless like @Freckles: said and it's a longer flight.

@lawbee11: No, probably not :( Bummerrrr, I wish I had thought of that! I'm starting to think I will just drive the two stinkin hours to IAH next time we fly, instead of trying to figure out all these darn connections and little planes!

@Bookish: Bummer! I was thinking we could grab lunch or something if you were driving here but there won't be time with just a connection.

I would pay the extra $. It's not a ton more leg room, but I'd hate to be in the last row of a full flight. I also think you can board sooner if you have an economy plus ticket (but I'm not positive).

@Rockies11: yeah that's true, I'll be lucky to get her to sleep before 10pm that night. She gets very excited when we go places.

@looch: yeah I think I screwed up on our seats. I thought in back would be better but in reality, I want OFF THE PLANE.

I love Economy +, but we always gets it for free because of our United status. I don't know that it would be worth paying for unless it comes with the ability to board early and free checked bags (we always get that, too, but I'm not sure if it is a status perk or an Economy + perk...).

We've done it, it's barely worth it in terms of extra space, but worth it to get the heck off the plane faster. I ALWAYS put us as far front as possible.

I just flew back from England on an economy + type situation, and while it was kind of awesome, I don't think I would pay for it, and that was a 9 hour flight. Probably his sleep would be a bit screwed up anyway from being in a new environment, so I wouldn't worry about pushing his bedtime!

How long is the flight? If it's more than 4 hours, i may consider it but any less and i don't think it's worth it.

DH and I are taking our 10 month old to Disney World in a couple weeks, and are flying United. We booked our seats a while back, and put ourselves in the very back row by the stewardess area. I suppose I figured we'd be better off back there, close to the bathroom & such, but now I'm checking the flight there and it's FULL. Like, I'm thinking it'll take us a good 30 mins to get off the flight, if we're lucky, and we're already pushing LO's bedtime.

So... there are Economy + seats available for about 115$ total (for 3 of us.. about 38$ a piece). They are in the very front and have more leg room. We'd get off the plane faster and have more room... but, that's a lot of money.

Those of you who have flown Economy +, or flown with a baby, is it worth it? Am I better off saving my money, because it will be difficult either way to keep goober happy?
