@Rubies: You can make certain changes since you're the one providing the nutrition (kind of like the babies that have milk/dairy sensitivity and mom's cut out dairy)

I use a cream called Maizon cream on myself, they also make a soap. It is a tar based cream, it stinks, but little goes a long way and I never have to treat for very long to make the eczema go away.

We use Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (not the lotion but the cream). It works great for us and did for my sister's son too.

@L2sweetpea: Do you mean diet changes in ME (since I'm breastfeeding LO) or, do you mean diet changes in her (when she gets older?)

@amy: I had no idea about the temperature of water. I've been keeping her bath water quite warm...Maybe I'll cool it down tonight.

I have eczema and my son does too. We found out he was allergic to cow's milk and eggs and a few other things that trigger it so we eliminated those. For treating his skin we coated him in Aquaphor on a daily basis and spot-treated him with OTC cortisone cream and prescription Desonide if it was especially bad. We also used California Baby calendula cream on his cradle cap and rough patches, but I think overall Aquaphor was the best treatment. Sometimes he looked comically shiny from being greased up, but it really helped and now his skin is nice and smooth!

Surprisingly enough diet can have a lot to do with eczema. I saw a chripracter while I was pregnant and she specializes in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic. She was telling me things you can change in your diet to improve skin and other conditions. Unfortunately I'm not as versed in it but you may want to look into diet changes.
I also did oatmeal bathes and consistent lotion, particularly Eucerin and aquaphor

My son has pretty bad case of eczema and I tried all the suggested easy available lotion, eucerin, aveeno, aquaphor but none of them worked. I use california Baby Calendula Cream. Its pretty pricey but it works. I put it on him all over twice a day, once in the morning and after his bath. He get pretty bad on his chin so I will put it there after every meal and whenever it looks dry. He only now breaks out with eczema on his chin, mostly from food irritation on his skin. But if I stop using this lotion it does come back all over. So its not a cure all. Some babies do grow out of it. My daughter who is now 3 grew out of it around 15 months.

And baths are the key. Everyday and it has to be luke warm, really warm baths tend to cause flair ups.

@mrsbells: I agree about the diet as well. He's allergic to milk protein which I didn't know about until he turned one when I tried to switch him to cow's milk. He was on breast milk exclusively. When i gave him soy milk his skin did clear up a bunch.

My friend has twins with eczema and aside from topical creams she also controls their diet, because she said there are certain things they eat that aggravates it

I was born asthmatic and had eczema as a result. As a kid, I did Aveeno oatmeal baths to keep my skin moisturized and stop the itch. Now, I occasionally use a cream for it. If your LO has it when they get older, I recommend a towel for chair at school. I had to have one when I was grade school in the early and late months of school because my eczema would act up then.

Just got back from LO's 4-month checkup and all is good except that what I thought was just dry skin turns out to be eczema! Poor LO, I had no idea.

Anyway, doctor gave presecription for cream but we're going to try and use natural methods first to see if it helps.

Do you or your LO have eczema? How do you treat it?
