Yay! Onesies with cute patterns / colors & leggings are our mainstays. Target's Just One You Carter's line has some really cute outfits that are practical - leggings & onesies with a jumper, for example.

SO SO excited for you! Congrats! You're girl is going to be gorgeous!!! Agree w/PP about Carter's sleep n plays for the first few months. Heck, some of the pjs are so cute - I wish she could wear them out more often!

Fore newborn, I loved the Carter's headbands - the elastic is so soft and doesn't leave marks like a lot of other headbands. I also loved Pickled Peanut ones from Etsy!

Ok, first off - yay yay yay! :)

Second - The comments have been super helpful, I never thought about doing limited dresses when they're learning to crawl! Also, DD isn't here yet, but so far we've bought and been gifted lots of cute onsies (some gender neutral, some SUPER girls) that we plan to pair with pants and we hope to do some sleepers, too. We do have a few dresses that I hope she'll wear since she's a spring/summer baby.

Also, this article was really fun and had a lot of practical tips: http://www.babble.com/baby/tips-for-dressing-a-stylish-baby-girl/

LO was a summer baby, so she lived in onesies and sleepers for the first 3 months or so. My best advice has already been shared, but I will second these tips:

-Buy patterns when you can. Every brand has its own version of "pink", so it is hard to mix and match solids. I usually try to buy patterned tops/dresses and solid leggings.

-I prefer leggings over pants. Leggings can be worn as pants, as well as under dresses, so more versatile.

-I always put a short-sleeved onesie under dresses or tunics (or tops that are open on the bottom). Dresses ride up constantly to expose bare tummies, and I always take dresses off for naps anyway (probably a bit paranoid, but I don't want LO to suffocate herself.

(ETA: Actually, now that it is cold, I just put long-sleeved onesies under her short-sleeved dresses to get more use out of them. It looks super cute!)

-I love love love LO's crocheted headbands. We just clip in a bow to match whatever she is wearing, and they stay put fairly well. Even with hair, LO cannot wear just a bow. Even with anti-slip stuff glued on the inside. Baby hair is just too fine.

Congrats on the girl. They are so much fun!

soo excited for u!!! hehe LO#1 was in sleepers/onesies the first couple months of her life. it was also winter tho (well.. california winter ;-) ). if she was born in summer i would probably do rompers and onesies. in the beginning carters clothes were great. it was hard to spend money on more expensive clothes since she outgrew them so fast! but once she got older i started shopping at old navy and gap more. she usually has a couple nice gap outfits in her size, but on a day to day basis will usually just wear old navy or target.

as far as headbands - start them young! actually i don't know if this goes for all babies, but she never had an issue with headbands until about a year old and i think its bc she wore them alot as a baby. i'm really into bow and knot headbands. so i've gotten some of these :

https://www.etsy.com/listing/130881893/baby-organic-top-knot-headband-one?ref=shop_home_active_6

i got some headbands from zuzii too! so soft!

OHMYGOSH I'm so excited for you!!!!!! How fun!
I am boring when it comes to girl clothes. DD has always refused headbands, bows, etc. and having been in daycare most of her life, I usually got a 5 pack of onesies from Carter's and put those on with matching leggings.
ETA - I put DD in a dress for Christmas (7 or 8 weeks old) and she just didn't seem comfortable. Also, I was annoyed because every diaper change I had to take down her tights, bloomers, and unsnap her onesie. DD also had some major blowouts so we just played it very casual in those early days.

Congrats! I haven't read through all of these, but just wanted to add that dresses are pretty tough until they can walk. I mean, maybe when they are totally immobile....but unless the dress is more like a tunic length it gets caught under their knees when they are trying to crawl/creep. Also, a pain in the car seat.

@mrskc: we  Carter's!!!!!!! I like that most of their stuff os interchangeable and just nice and cute. Some Gymboree stuff is nice too. I don't get too fancy with shoes and such, but when we go out it is always a cute outfit. I got some headbands at target, but I made a lot of her bows and put them on headbands from hobby lobby. That way I get more bang for my buck. She stays in sleepers at night.

We had 99% carters stuff. Mostly onesies with pants since they were comfy but as it got hotter she was in a lot of rompers or dresses. Then, and now still, comfort wins over fashion.

My winter girl baby lived in footed PJs and sleepers for the first couple months of her life. It wasn't until she hit maybe 3 months or so that I started dressing her up more - mostly baby gap, h&m and gymboree. She wore tons of dresses with tights or leggings.

@mrskc: Sorry I keep commenting on this thread. LOL. I have 14 shabby chic headbands (the small flower-ish headbands) in pretty much every color. They're all either 0-3 or 3-6 months, so they'll be too small for M soon. I'd be willing to sell them to you for cheap. I can take a pic of all of them and post it on your wall if you want :)

DD is only 13 weeks and so far I dress her mostly in sleepers. She does have two dresses, but they both ride up constantly since she's still kind of a blob. However, I have half a dozen dresses in 12-18 month sizes that I can't wait to see her in.

@rawrasaur: I love A's style! Yeah my plan is to go through DS's clothes and decide what I want to keep for this one. I think I have a lot of his stuff that will work. I would have never thought about Claire's! I'll check them out. I'm sure she's going to have fine hair like her brother. I wouldn't be surprised if she's born practically bald like him too.

I would hold off on dresses other than special occasions before she can walk. Especially with crawling, the skirt gets in the way.

If you have A's old clothes, I would start with finding pieces that would work for a girl and figuring out how you could girl them up. Ex: striped onesie + pink shorts. I have a handful of boys items that have worked well.

I buy a lot of my clothes on clearance from Target, Old Navy, and Kohls.

My favorite bows (as I'm sure you have seen plenty of) are from Claire's, of all places. They stay in her fine hair really well. I have 6 total.
http://www.claires.com/store/us/goods/hair/cat1450020/hair+bows/p61935/stripe+and+polka+dot+bow+hair+clips/
http://www.claires.com/store/us/goods/hair/cat1260200/barrettes+%26+clips/p62228/lace+bow+hair+clips+set+of+2/

ETA: Creepers and rompers are my favorites for cute and functionality.

Most of LOs clothes come from Old Navy, Target, Gap, Carter's, & Kohl's.

In the newborn stage we did onsies and leggings/pants so she was comfy. At home she just wore sleepers. I did a lot of hte mix and match from Target, their Circo brand was my favorite (still is at 17 months.) It's cheap and not too "girlie" My daughter wore a lot of blue & green, I'm not a huge fan of pink. I have a few local women i get my headbands/bows from. I found buying bows adn then just having basic thin bands that I could exchange worked the best. White, black, navy, brown.

@mrskc: I didn't read through the answers you've already gotten but R was born in the summer and I put her in dresses and rompers all the time. I am a huge fan of little girls wearing dresses though  I also didn't have any specific brands, especially since I bought at consignment shops. I tried to choose a variety of colors and patterns to make things easier to match. I believe her headbands came from Target and Walmart? I am also a big proponent of bonnets and sun hats so she wore a lot of those. Congrats on your little gal!

I bought most of my daughter's clothing from Baby Gap, Old Navy, and Target (in their clearance sections before she was born). Such a money saver!!!

My favorite headbands are from A Pinch of Peach (etsy) and Little Hip Squeaks.

@T.H.O.U.: Yes!! The different shades is so hard. I have received so many hand me downs that R can't wear cause there isn't tops to match the bottoms and vise versa.

I do a lot of Old Navy and Carters for basics/daycare and then a few Tea Collection and Mini Boden for when I want to dress her up.

For the newborn phase I did lots of leggings and onesies or sleep n' plays. I don't think I owned any dresses for her until she was about 9 months old and even now I only put her in them for special occasions - she gets cranky if she can't crawl around easily. I just go for comfiness and ease of movement and go crazy on the adorable prints instead of doing dresses and skirts.

@T.H.O.U.: oh that's a good point about all the different shades of pink and purple.

@mediagirl: I love Carter's stuff! My son has lived in their clothes since he was born.

@GrapeCrush: yes I can definitely see it will probably be impracticality to dress her up all the time!
