I'm fine with TV and she watches some on Disney and PBS. Sometimes it's the only thing that works to help her unwind a bit or allows me to cook dinner :)

Yes. TV is a tool in my parenting "tool belt"; it's not an evil thing and there are a LOT of great shows that teach in ways that make learning more accessible to children.

Yes, I try to make the screen time he sees (and we go well above the recommended allotment) relatively educational. I find myself getting increasingly annoyed with Disney channel and gravitating more towards PBS shows. As long as he's getting lots of exercise too, I don't really set a restricted amount of screen time since we have a lot of activities too.

@sunny: I remember Square One! That was an awesome show.
@HellOnHeels: I played math related computer games too! It was so much fun.
I don't really have a problem with educational shows at all. As long as they're not watching TV for hours on end..

I was a total nerd and watched Square One tv (a math show) and played educational videogames! Lol! My parents didn't really have a problem with it.

If your LO is or may become interested in educational tv shows or games, would you be more apt to let them have more screen time?

Growing up (and really, to this day) I enjoyed and sought out TV shows and movies that were more educational then a cartoon or sitcom; historical and science documentaries, a lot of Discovery Channel etc. Also played educational computer games, mostly math ones to try and improve my shitty math skills.

I think if my kids will be the same way, I certainly won't discourage screen time if it's educational, to an extent of course.
