@Weagle: @meredithNYC: @pelikila: Thanks!!

@scg00387: Ah doing it overnight is a good thought!

@tlcbaby: Well look how smart that is!! I should also look into those octopus-looking racks they have that hang and have like 12 arms that come out with hooks... there are definitely options out there.

@autumnlove: Ooh yeah, both the detergent and the laundry tabs are good reasons to not mix.

@MamaCate: Good tip, thank you!

@Tidybee: Good to hear :) I know we'll get there eventually once we get past the learning curve!

@HabesBabe: We are doing this: http://www.twincitydiaper.com/catalog/diaper-rentals-and-trials/newborn-rental-new-bumgenius--223.html

@JamieLee: Ah yes, perfect!! Thank you!

@birdofafeather: Darn, I hope we don't have leaking issues with them, although you're not the first person to mention it. I should check with them about exchange for a different option (they also rent NB size fitteds/covers and FuzziBunz), so maybe if they don't work out after week or two, we can swap them out and use disposables during shipping.

Cloth is great but I have to say that I would have rented something other than the BG newborns. They actually leaked a fair amount as opposed to our BG 4.0s and flips. If there are options for other AIOs, you might want to read some reviews on the newborn sizing!

But our rental was still great and we've been using our own diapers for a month now and we love it. Not hard at all and so cute!

If space is a real premium, I've heard of people using a few of these hanging off the shower rod.

It'll be okay. I was terrified of the extra work, but it's really not that bad. We got a drying rack and it just slides under our couch when we're not using it.
ETA: I really prefer cloth to disposable...and all of our parents who have watched her also prefer them.

@JoJoGirl: We keep diaper laundry separate as well because we use detergent just for cloth. They recommend detergents with no additives (brighteners, enzymes, scents, etc etc) so most general clothes detergents don't fit the bill. We use the BG detergent and have been happy with it, btw.

@JoJoGirl: I always kept all diaper laundry separate. I think the BG newborns have aplix fasteners...I used the laundry tabs but they can still come undone and snag other clothes.

@JoJoGirl: You'll be fine! And if you start off with cloth, you'll never know the difference in time commitment anyway!

Could you use a drying rack like this?

@JoJoGirl: you'll be fine! I washed and dried every night overnight bc we didn't have enough to wait and line dry. I personally wouldn't mix laundry loads.loved not having To worry about running out of dipes and we changed sooo many times a day!

We did a newborn rental as well and I was so glad I did. It was only one load of laundry every day or day and a half and it really didn't make a difference.

I am new to cloth and I have to say, most of my fears were not warranted. Yes, the poop is not exactly pleasant to deal with, but my LO is quite a bit older so she's on solids. All I have ever heard from moms who cloth diaper their newborns is that breast milk poop is extremely easy to deal with. Honestly, I'm with @Cole in that the money savings alone will be awesome. When LO was tiny, we flew through newborn diapers.

@JoJoGirl: I like to keep all of my diaper laundry separate from my regular laundry, mainly because we use the cloth safe detergent only on our cloth diapers.

Thanks guys!! :) question for other cd mamas- once I do the initial cold rinse to get off the gunk, can I put in other dirty LO laundry with the hot wash?

I don't have any cloth diaper experience but you could look at it this way-- if the alternative is Pampers Swaddlers you only need to do 7 loads of laundry (with most of your diapers in there) before you break even on your investment in the cloth. When you look at it that way you are really only making a small commitment so if you hate it you haven't lost much! I am sure you will figure it out!

Congrats! It will be fine! We didnt do newborn cloth but we were hanging out at home a lot and doing lots of laundry anyway so i think it will be fine. You can hang things n the shower curtaain rod and closet rods in a pinch too. We have been doing cloth for a year now (bg 4.0s) and it has been great!

I've been caught up in other projects and with 10 weeks to go, decided it was time to sign up for our rental! We're going to do BG Freetimes OS once LO fits into them, so needed a newborn size rental. We found a great, inexpensive option (36 BG newborn size AIOs for $80 + deposit for 8 weeks) but now I am completely panicked we are doing cloth diapering at all! How will we have time to do all the laundry? How long are these things going to take to dry? We don't even have space for a drying rack or clothesline... they're going to likely need to go in the dryer. We can manage, right?!
