@catomd00: I was thinking that most of the time she just wakes up looking for us! It's so sweet/sad.

@teawithpaloma: oh i hope not!! i'm sure there's something i could've done differently to force the issue, but she's also really tiny, so i wanted to make sure she got all her calories any way possible. she's 11 months now so i'm hoping as she passes the 1 year mark we can wean entirely. but these stubborn babies are a lot of work! :silly:

@teawithpaloma: we used a bottle until he was about a year old cause he wouldn't drink as well from a sippy. Slow flow nipple though.

There's a regression around 8-9 months when object permanence set in. I would try to comfort her back to sleep without nursing for at least one of the wake ups. You may have to send your partner in instead.

@Little Misters Mom: Let's keep updated on progress. I'll let you know if I find anything that works. I really don't think she needs to eat for most of these feedings it's just I have enabled them with how I respond to her wake-ups.

@Pirouette: Oh sister! These active babies! My little one is so willful so I fear we're going down the same route as you. That's okay - and I'll survive if so but I thought I would try at least!

We did a modified version of your #2, DH would offer water when it was before 5am. Often he was thirsty and water was enough for him. Ever so often it wasn't though so we'd either try to console him until 5am or I'd nurse before when he just wouldn't quiet down. Then one day he suddenly decided to STTN.

Hope you find a solution that works for you. :goodluck:

I'm currently trying to figure this out as well, so more solidarity than advice. But one thing that jumps out is needing to separate nursing from bedtime a little but more. Most of the books suggest at least 20 minutes between last nurse and bedtime, and that sounds like it might be an easy adjustment. We are just starting to figure it out, but I think our plan is to do a combination of option one and two. So for his first feeding around 1:30 (which I know he doesn't need) I'm going to reduce the time over the course of a few nights. If he doesn't drop it within a week we'll move to Dh doing check and console. My plan is to tackle one feeding at a time. He's currently getting up twice (after formerly STTN and then nursing only once for about 3 months). So I'm trying to get rid of the early feeding first (anything before 3 am). Once that is gone, I'm going to address the second and hopefully last feeding.

Let us know how it goes for you. I'm right there with ya!

my LO started doing the exact same thing around the same time (she also was crawling at 6 months and cruising by 7 months, so very "busy" during the day and didn't have time to drink enough. so she would make up for it at night). I didn't sleep train, so not sure if i'm much help, but what helped us was your #2 - having DH go in anytime before 4am, and i'd feed her at 4. he'd give her a bottle if she was hungry before 4, and she didn't care for it enough to wake up for it the next night.

that worked for a few weeks and she was doing 7-4 or 5 and then nursing and going back down till 6:30 or so. that didn't last, for what it's worth, due to teething and a determined baby who now reverse cycles (she stopped taking milk from anyone other than me, making it impossible to night wean and have her get enough calories), but it did work for a while! she's still nursing once or twice a night these days, and likely will until she weans completely. hopefully your LO isn't as stubborn as mine and it would work for you!

My LO went through sleep training at 4.5 months old and did really well. As per her temperament, she started crawling at 6.5 months and pulling herself at 7 months so now we're passed those developmental milestones. As of late she goes down at 7pm, wakes sometime during these intervals: 10-11, 2-3, and 5-6 and then is up for the day at 6:30-7ish. I fear I have started an irreversible habit: each time I wait 2 minutes maximum and then I go into her room and nurse her. She usually eats for a good 3-4 minutes max and then just kind of comfort nurses until I put her back into her crib and she (generally) falls right back asleep.

She's a champion napper (2.5-3-4 schedule) and doesn't need to be nursed to go down for naps. I do nurse her for bedtime but I think I could easily change that routine and it would be okay for her.

Does anyone have suggestions about which methods would be best to start night weaning or at least reduce the wake-ups? I am absolutely fine with one wake-up and nursing session!

Option 1: I still go in for each wake-up but cut down the time nursing by 1 minute (this would require a bit a wherewithal to figure out in the middle of the night but I think I could do it).

Option 2: Husband goes in for each night waking until its been 7-8 hours since last nursing (she has gone this long so I know she'll be okay) and just does modified ferber type comfort.

Option 3: Cold turkey CIO - I think I could stand 3 nights of this maximum but it would be really hard! I'm afraid she's used to eating at night and it would be a disaster and no one would sleep!

Thanks for your feedback to just another mama trying to get some sleep.
