I feel so awkward brushing without an electric toothbrush anymore! I was spending quite a bit of $ on the disposable electric toothbrushes, and got annoyed with the batteries always dying. Finally got an Oral B rechargeable one (from Costco) as a gift. DH has a Sonicare and I prefer that one over my Oral B. It's quieter, faster, and softer. But the Oral B was cheaper and works well too. I just love a squeaky clean mouth!

i have a spin brush & DH has an oral b. i hate when i have to use a regular brush, they never feel as clean. for DH's i've had good luck ordering replacement heads on amazon for a LOT less than in stores.

@prettylizy: @sorrycharlie: the spin brushes can do more damage then good! They can be really agressive- and there wads an fda recall on that brand about a year ago.

I sometimes use alcohol and wipe the brush head and the tip part where it attaches. I only had the mildew problem before I started taking care of it. It is really gross if you let it go though :((

@sweetchic: I had the same problems with the smell and had to get rid of it.

My dentist recommended the Oral B Professional 5000 plus you can buy replacement heads for a year at Costco for about $37.00 when they have it in their coupon booklet. Hands down the best toothbrush ever.

@Alivoo01: @yellowbird: I had a Sonicare and I hated the mildew buildup where the head attached! And then it started to smell, no matter how often I tried to clean it :( So I ditched the whole thing after about a year of use... sad

All my dentist friends recommend the Sonicare. I used my first one for eight years before it finally conked out. Just got a new one and I love it. My dentist always tells me that she can tell I'm a Sonicare user :)

@Alivoo01: they do build up gunk under the brush head. I always disconnect mine and wipe it dry. The model I have also come with a UV thing to sterilize your brush head. I never use it though!

The brush heads are pricey, but you really only need 4 year so that's about 7 dollars a pop without a coupon. It's worth it in my opinion! So clean!!

Another user of Sonic Care, and I like it. But like others have said, replacement heads are a lil pricey. They can also tend to build up some mildew near the head connection to the body so make sure it's dry!

I have a flex care+ and my husband has a diamond clean. They are basically the same. OMG!! I can't believe how expensive these are! I haven't looked in a while. I always just use mine on the clean setting, so if you get one with less settings you aren't missing out on much. The only one I don't like on the site is te essence, it looks really bulky and would be difficult to hold.

I can help! I'm a dentist! I recommend sonicare. It takes a little bit to get used to because it will tickle your gums for a few days, but that stops pretty quickly and it gets your teeth so clean! In school we did a research project and found that the sonicare will get your teeth so clean in 2 minutes that it would take 6 minutes with a manual brush to compare.

I have an oral b electric too, but I don't like it as much. It's bulkier and louder.

ETA: target has great coupons for sonicare brush head replacements. I always get a 5.00 off coupon when I buy them!

I have an Oral B one that I like and got from my dentist. The biggest con is the cost of replacement heads...I think it's around $25 for a 3-pack and I always try to find a sale/coupon to make them cheaper at Kohl's or Bed Bath Beyond. If I were you, I'd go to a store that has them on display and touch/play around with them...see if anything jumps out at you and then check reviews on it.
