I pictured it as a funny/cutesy thing that is silly for kids. He does "naught" things but I wouldn't make him do truly naughty things because that might encourage similar behaviors in my kid(s). We don't plan to do Santa either, but my parents still played "Santa" with us even though we knew the whole time... So elf might be along those lines if we decide to do it... Some things are allowed to be just for adults -- GMA and all of the other morning shows are not shows for children, nor have they ever claimed to be. Sure, a lot of parents watch while they're at home taking care of their kids, but it's not fair to be mad if there's content not suitable for children. It's still a news show.
