@FutureMrsMcK: yeah same here. Typing is so much easier, and doesn't take quite as long.

I might actually do both!

I've been writing letters to my unborn child on my computer (both on a word document and in gmail), email a copy to myself, and print a copy out to put in a book.

I think I'd prefer to read handwritten letters, but my handwriting is atrocious, and I just write better when I type...I can go back and edit things, and have a much easier time organizing and getting my thoughts out because when I type I can keep up with my brain, hand-writing something I can't.

there's always the combination of e-mailing letters and printing them as well to keep in a binder :)

I don't have much faith in free e-mail account both remaining free and remaining in business until my kids are old enough to read. Maybe I'm just paranoid, though - Yahoo has been doing fine since our family has had internet.

@JessicaMcB: yeah I was thinking the same thing. But then there is always the risk of losing the journal, having a house accident (so many of my friends have lost their houses to fires recently), pen/pencil fading etc where you can't lose an email. Pretty sure gmail will be around as long as Internet!

I like the idea of a journal because its something you can physically give your daughter and she can treasure it/pass it down to her kids and grandkids. I'm generally a bigger fan of keepsakes being something you can keep- you wouldn't want your beautiful letters to ever be lost if the site closed up shop or your children lost the password, etc.

When I was growing up my mom kept journals for each of us kids, writing letters to us as we grew older. She wasn't extremely diligent about it, but I LOVED reading through it. It has so much special meaning and sentimental value. I loved it as a kid and knew that I wanted to do it for my baby.

The mom that I nanny for started email addresses for her kids and encouraged family and closest friends to write letters to her kids too. She writes letters to them by sending them to "their" email addresses and once they're older, she'll give them their email.

I love both ideas and both have their pros/cons.
Which is a better idea? Which would you choose and why? I can't decide which one to do.
