Unfortunately there is not much the doctor can do, but you should still go see them and they can give you cream and/or suppositories with steroids to help. Mine were so bad and I would bleed (a lot) for a few days at a time. I ended up with a fissure and it is one of the most painful things I have ever experienced (it feels like the ring of fire every time I have a "hard" BM.) Main thing is keeping your BM soft so you can heal down there... for me Miralax works wonders and I take a capful with orange juice every day! Colace never did anything for me.

@littlebug - I don't think the doctor will have a whole lot of solutions aside from lots of fiber+water and over the counter meds (witch hazel etc). Agreed that sitz/epsom salt baths are the most helpful, but a bit of a pain. So, it may be easier to just take frequent showers. On a different note, are you using a steroid cream to reduce inflammation? That can be helpful at first but then just makes the skin thin... not recommended for over 2 weeks.

Hemorrhoid removal is actually a decently involved surgery...not that easy.

Hope you feel better soon!

@littlebug: talk to the Dr about being irregular as well. It can be as simple as adding a probiotic or mild laxative like metamucill, benefiber, or mirlax. Dannon activia daily really helps me. I can tell when I don't have it & DH says I'm cranky lol good luck!

@littlebug - start with the epsom baths for now, it'll ease any discomfort and hopefully start the healing process.

@Bao: That's part of the problem. No matter how much fiber and green leafy veggies I eat, and colace and magnesium I take, I am NEVER regular. Runs in the family.

How much bleeding are we talking? I've had this issue PP and now that LO is 8 months they are barely there. I think if you keep regular and use some tucks pads you should be ok, but if it is bothering you that much give your Dr. a call!

Call the dr - my DH had them and didn't take care of them, he ended up with a fissure tear which was beyond excruciating.

ETA: they had him on a suppository and sitting in an epsom salt bath every evening. It got to the point where he did the bath twice a night and twice in the daytime because of the pain, and now has metamucil every day to make things easier.

I am 16 weeks post-partum. I still have hemorrhoids. Usually they don't bother me too much - sometimes they flare up a bit with a bowel movement, but for the most part, I think they were on their way to going away. But today, I had a big BM, and I am now bleeding. I think it actually ripped a hemorrhoid open?! Is it time to call my doctor to ask about getting it/them removed? Or do I just need to deal with this and continue to just let it/them heal?
