I was going to ask how often to bathe them, how soon we forget ;)
Charlie hates the bath, but I use Yes to Baby Carrots foaming unscented body soap/shampoo. I only notice a cheesy smell once in a while, and I agree check her ears! Also her hands, Charlie has a constant grip and I've found lots of fabric, hair, and sweat in there. I'm constantly checking her hands, like at every feeding!

Also showering really isn't that hard, it takes a couple times to get use to it. We either shower or take a bath together ( I set her in my lap ).

@Foodnerd81: Yeah. I use the Organic Virgin Olive Oil from Trader Joe's. Is that bad? lol? I swear though, every single "rash" cream we've used has given her more redness and rashes - and 1-2 nights of using the coconut oil and it's all cleared up! It's still not as moisturizing as needed sometimes, so I will also use Aquaphor on her face when she gets dry patches. DH calls her our "little coconut cookie!" because she smells like one every night!

@Foodnerd81: When they're so little still, it's hard to really get in there in the neck! I would use the foaming soap or cream cleanser, with my hands and work through the neck and always could feel gunk. Rinse, rinse, and repeat. And I'd usually still find some bits of gunk I missed on the first round! When she was that little, it was almost impossible to get in there with the washcloth properly, so I found my fingers worked best. Also kind of holding her up, and supported, but her head would lean back a bit, and having DH help thoroughly rinse and pat dry the neck.

FWIW, we've been using Coconut Oil since the beginning and almost every-time I've used something else, she;s turned red. And when I go back to the the coconut oil, the redness calms down!

@sorrycharlie: she's 6 weeks. And I need to get the cetaphil- her skin is so rough and kind of flakey. But I know it bothers me more than her.

@yoursilverlining: we tried the preheated bathroom and its hit or miss. Like everything with babies... But we do make sure to turn off the ac for a while before bath time now.

I think everyone else has addressed neck cheese (yucky, but seemingly unavoidable!) - I had a bath suggestion. When my LO was really little like yours, she only liked bathtime if the bathroom was really warm...like sauna warm. If I preheated the bathroom with a little space heater, she was a happy camper. Might help?

how old is your LO again? i also used my hands to wash my LO when she was young (actually, up until about 8/9 months!! it was much faster and more effective).

when my LO was a newborn, I dabbed cetaphil lotion on her dry spots. she had some SERIOUS dry skin on her face - certain areas - that would flake into her eyes, mouth, etc. I was so grossed out, so I'd gently pat some lotion onto her. Never before I'd leave her unattended though (I was paranoid - if she wiped it into her eye, her mouth, etc) until it dried :)

@bunnylove08: showering sounds way more difficult than bathing a crying baby! She seems to be getting slightly better with t- today no screaming until I did her hair an face at the end.

@Mrsbells: I have her in the newborn sling in te baby tub still. Should I be moving her out of it? I gave her our first solo bath today and the sling made it feel safer.

Haha yeah, LO has some serious neck cheese. We ended up bathing her daily, but she enjoys her bath. If she was a bath hater, I'd probably just get her neck and head every day. There are rolls upon rolls in those little baby necks; you really just have to dig in!!

We bathe M nightly, but only use soap every other day. The days we don't use soap I add Aveeno calming comfort bath to the water. We also only use a warm washcloth on her face (no soap) and I wash her hair every day because she has so much of it and it gets oily quickly. I have also found whitish gunk in her thigh rolls. I am not sure if it's from the diaper or what but I always make sure to wipe there with the washcloth. I put Aveeno calming lotion on her afterwards every time and I feel like that's what makes her smell really good!

LOL, I remember that cheese smell, haha... My LO also hated the bath so we had him in & out fast! We used Mustela which smells like heaven, and scrubbed him down pretty fast...

We also had some cradle cap and used a comb to get the flakes. And I tried to wipe his neck pretty often if milk got in there... But I feel like they just smell like that in the beginning.. Ha!

I had to start washing Xander's face and neck daily (though I only gave him baths twice a week) because of the cheese in the neck area! And I really had to push his head up to really get under his chin and get it!

But I can tell you it DOES get better! Once they can hold their heads up on their own, that problem goes away!!

Using my hands makes sense. I use a baby washcloth but I could probably get in there better with my fingers. She hates having her head washed the most so that makes it harder.

I'm a bit afraid to use coconut oil, like I'm afraid she will have an allergic reaction. Also that she will smell like a tropical drink but that's better than neck cheese.
