@Mrs. Pajamas: That's what I thought based on the lurking I have done on the IVF thread. None of it is cheap really, but this seems to be less invasive, less meds, less appointments; which is all good because I don't live close to an RE at all.

@CatchAFallingStar: I've considered IUI + meds, but the fact there isn't a label they have been able to put on me makes it seem like a lost cause too. My husband is 31 and I am 29, my lab work came back great with just a slightly elevated AMH. I need to lose weight, I'm not massive, but I definitely am larger than I was when I got conceived my son. I beat myself up constantly over my inability to lose weight like I used to or find the energy to work out consistently, but then I see women get pregnant that aren't skinny minnies all the time. So I'm just at a loss, but I NEED another baby, I don't feel like I was only supposed to have 1.

@Sams Mom: have you considered IUI with injectable meds? That’s what worked for me. My husband has excellent sperm. I’m just a little older and my eggs needed a little help.

@Sams Mom: I imagine your guess on embryo adoption being cheaper is right because the most expensive part of IVF is the egg retrieval due to all the monitoring, meds and the procedure itself is basically an out-patient hospital procedure with anesthesia and what not. It's far more complicated and invasive than doing a frozen transfer which is what you would do for an adopted embryo. When you adopt eggs you still have to involve an embryologist to get them to fertilize with your husband's/donor's sperm. That is expensive because that's where the magic happens as I like to think of it!

@LBee: I haven't seen an RE yet, and there aren't any clinics within a couple hundred miles of me. So that has been a bit of a hold up for us. The one that is a 9 hour drive from me has a price sheet listed estimated at $7,500 for the whole process minus meds; which seems to be cheaper than my friends IVF cycle with PGS testing and frozen storage at $22,000. I think a lot of the cost variance for egg donor and embryo donation is embryos can't be bought, but eggs can be. But I still have no idea on half of the ART world.

I have a friend who did a donor egg, so a little different. I do know she said it ended up costing as much as an IVF cycle - just something to think about. She adopted her egg through her fertility clinic. I would think that would be the place to start.

@pachamama: no, this is when a couple that have completed their family via IVF donate their remaining embryos for adoption. So you get to be pregnant, but the baby is not genetically your's or your partner's.

@Sams Mom: I don't think there would be any limitations re: initial or secondary infertility. (Although.. any clinic could put whatever arbitrary limitations on this they want, I suppose.. but then I would just move on to the next clinic.) Its possible that embryo adoption may be only offered to current clinic patients. (Is "patient" the right word?) But again.. just call around. At our clinic, my sister was not required to adopt the full set of embryos. And she did not adopt the full set. I think the person who is adopting out their embryos is able to retain some sort of control on who they adopt the embryos to and under what conditions. But also, I'm sure some people do not want to have a say in that process. My sister was able to see pictures of the child from the embryo set she was adopting. I do not know anything about the sibling program. And I don't know the difference one way or another about adopting from a clinic or an agency. Seems like it may be cheaper to go through the clinic since you would be cutting out the middle man. But then you may have to wait for embryos to become available, whereas the agency would probably already have a bunch.

@agold: Absolutely! I think my main concern is will they do it for someone with secondary infertility? Do they require you to adopt full sibling sets? Do they require you to attempt transfer on the full sibling set? What is the $1200 sibling program fee I've noticed on a couple sites? Is it better to adopt through an agency or a clinic?

Sorry for the word vomit.

@Sams Mom: My sister did it. I can see if she is willing to talk to you if you want to talk to her about it. If I can answer any questions, let me know. My sister and I talked a lot about this! As to what to do with left over embryos, I was also worried about this. I didn't end up having any left over, and I"m not sure what I would have done if I did. Probably use them all!! But I also heard about something called "compassionate transfer". That might be something you can look into.

@Kaohinani: I think a lot of fertility clinics offer this, even if there is maybe a waiting time. I hope you can find it if you are actually looking for this.

@Mrs. Pajamas: As much as I would love to request information on your embryos for myself (cycle 35 TTC here 😫), would you consider having a discussion with Sam's Mom? She has been quite passionate about having another baby for a while and has been discussing embryonic adoption on the POAS boards for a bit now. 💜

@foodiebee: thanks for posting this link! I'm looking to donate my embryos and have so far only been recommended faith-based orginazations that do adoptions and we don't want to limit the couples who could adopt our embryos based on faith.

Following ...
I have read about women who will donate embryos when they are through having children of their own and do not wish to incur the financial burden of maintaining the embryos further. I have yet to come across any amazing saint of an individual who would ever afford me the chance to adopt her embryo for transfer. I have always wondered if there are institutions and specific qualifications one must meet for an embryonic "gifting" or, more popularly, an adoption.
Thank you, @Sams Mom for inquiring over this!

I feel for you so much with this. There was a period where we thought there was a chance we wouldn't end up with a single embryo from this round of IVF and might go this route too. I read about Mrs. Pickle's journey linked above and did a depressed google search and stumbled onto a site called Miracles Waiting. Important: I don't know much about them and can't vouch for it in any way, but my understanding is that these are embryos that people have leftover that they are donating to good families who want to have a/another child. (Not to be overly light about it, but it reminds me a bit of the Penny Saver from the movie Juno!) I'm mentioning it here in case someone else with more experience has heard of it and can tell you more (yay/nay/etc). http://www.miracleswaiting.org/

I am looking for anyone that has looked into or done embryo adoption. I am nearing the end of my allowed cycles for oral fertility meds only, and will be moving on from there.

Background:

My conflict is my husband's SA came back with flying colors, so I'm concerned IUI won't really help our odds at this point. As to IVF it is outside our budget, and do not want to go into more debt pursuing IVF.

Also I know that if we did pursue IVF, and I had embryos left over after having 1 or 2 more kids I couldn't destroy or donate to research and would maybe have a hard time giving them up for adoption.

So my solution, currently, is to pursue Embryo Adoption.

I am looking for any groups, clinics, adoption agencies, anything that anyone might have experience with and can recommend.

Also I remember watching a dateline or 60 minute special in the late 90s about the "Adopt a Snowflake" foundation and I haven't ever forgotten it. So maybe it's always been in my cards.
