What about Emersen? Slightly more feminine, without the y. She would still have a heavily misspelled name- I do, but I'm used to it and it's really not a big deal. Our second son has an older spelling of an already old name. We know he'll have name corrections, no big deal based on my experience.

Emersyn just looks spelled incorrectly, and she would be doomed to a life of constant correcting. I actually don't think it looks more feminine, but Emery is a very cute alternative if you don't like the "son" ending!

Emerson -- 1) I have one ;) 2) I'm not a fan of unnecessary Ys, I don't think a Y should be able to replace any vowel even though it's the trend.

Wow talk about an overwhelming majority.

I'm not currently pregnant so this is just for fun but DH likes coming with with names for our future second daughter (our daughter is only 3 months so this is far into the future.)

We both love the name Emerson but are a bit put off by the -son at the end. It just seems weird for a girl. At the same time neither of us likes unnecessary Ys.

I agree with what's been said about -son endings for girls being a bit masculine, but I don't love the Y spelling either. I'd use -son.

I totally get wanting to maybe spell it more feminine with a Y vs traditional spelling....The Y younique spelling trend put me off for a while, but when we were racking our brains to name LO2, I found myself considering it with a name (Camdyn). But we ended up nixing it mainly bc we weren't comfortable going with a name we would spell "youniquely."

My niece is "Addisyn" and we all misspell it all the time. My mom actually monogrammed an Easter basket for her and put the Y in the wrong place and I caught her muttering "Why couldn't they just spell it normal so we don't have to deal with this all the time?!?"

We decided to go with a name with a nice, traditional spelling:)

I'm torn! I don't care for -son endings for girls, but I really don't like the look of Emersyn. FWIW, the -syn spelling also changes the pronunciation for me, from a schwa sound in the last syllable to a short i.

I prefer the y. I usually don't like unique spellings, but I think it makes it feminine stand alone. Where we live (abroad) -son is a common surname (Emer's son) and back then an alternate spelling would have been Emersdotter, for example.
