@Foodnerd81: so hard! And it's so hard to not take it personally. Compared to the terrible 2s and threenager, these outbursts and being defiant seem so deliberate.
Solidarity,...and lots of deep breaths.

@Litebrite: I am 100% right there with you. I know I don’t always respond in the best way but it’s so effing hard sometimes. But I try and remember that the things that are most frustrating now could make her so amazing when she can use them the right way (as in, not being defiant with me every step of the way...) solidarity.

@Foodnerd81: Thanks for the recommendation. I looked into this book, and I think my kid meets some of the description of Spirited.

I think right now I'm just trying to gain understanding of what he is feeling so I can manage my own feelings and reactions better. I get so frustrated and dont always react well, which I'm sure just makes everything worse.

@Mrs. Lion: Janet Lansbury was key for us surviving the volitility of 2-3yrs...I'll definitely check out Highly Sensitive,..good to hear it's getting easier as he gets older.

I read Taming Your Spirited Child- not sure if it describes your child but my preschooler is very emotional and quick to react. You can read blurbs online before deciding to buy it. But full disclosure, while it helped me understand my girl a little better, it hasn’t actually helped me manage her better.

Janet Lansbury is my favorite, but also look into Highly Sensitive Children. Theres tons of resources out there and I have found it very helpful. My son is this way...he feels all the feels very deeply and isn't shy about expressing them. It is getting easier as he is getting older. ❤

My 4.5 yo's preschool teacher has always said my son is one of the more emotional kids in the class, in the sense that little things will set him off and he will end up crying or acting out. We see the same at home, but if the teacher didn't point it out I wouldn't have known he was more sensitive than an average preschooler.
Anyway, anyone have any good books, blogs, resources for how to support and react to emotional kiddos? Sometimes I'm able to de-escalate the situation, but it's becoming more often that my husband and I lose our cool. I also wonder if there is something that is stressing him out that is causing him to be so emotional in the first place.
