@Sunshine1810: It is usually recommended to use Endometrin suppositories during bed time. Your attending nurse isn't wrong in asking you to lay down after taking it, to decreases the chances of the suppository slipping out and assist better drug dissolution. Also, progesterone may cause a bit of dizziness too in some patients right after administration. About the hot flushes - it's not very common. I haven't myself experienced it but have definitely heard people going through the same. It is possible that hot flushes are just a mix of all the other side-effects like dizziness, headache, constipation, icky discharge etc. It may have been happening now in second IVF cycle because of the intensity of side-effects increases on prolonged or repeated use; naturally, you're experiencing it in second cycle. I don't think there's much to worry about it.

I've been on Endometrin since the week before transfer. I use it 3x a day and have never been advised to lie down right after use. It would be impossible for the mid day, since I work.

I have experienced a little more dizziness, hot flashes, and constipation. I think the worst is the leakage. I swear I go through a package of pantiliners every couple of days.

In case anyone else stumbles across this, my nurse told me it's only because progesterone supplements can cause dizziness. It's nothing to do with effectiveness or absorption. So basically just pay attention to your reaction and if you notice it makes you dizzy, take necessary precautions including lying down.

@PurplePumps: The anesthesia they use for ER can also really cause constipation, they always warn me of that at retrieval. Plus I think the stim meds cause it also, and of course just a general bloated/uncomfortable feeling, so you're generally dealing with all of those on top of each other for several days after the retrieval. No fun!

I always start them the morning after ER, and do three times per day. I've never been told to lie down afterwards, and I've never even heard of anyone doing this. Although if you can get me a doctor-required nap for "medical reasons" in the middle of the work day, I'll take the doctor's note, please! I think they make me sleepy, and I am always hot during the stim meds and the TWW, but I don't know if both are down to the progesterone only. Are you on Estrace pills also? I definitely struggle with waking up super hot at night during stims and after.

A little off the original question, but did anyone experience constipation using Endometrin either? I only took the Endometrin for 3 days since my transfer was cancelled, but something really affected right after the retrieval, starting that day. It's been about a week and a half and I'm finally starting to feel more normal now.

I used endometrin. Never had hot flashes but had a bunch of other symptoms. I didn't lie down after. I felt like it took a long time to melt/absorb so it wasn't until hours and hours later that I saw the gross aftereffects so I don't think laying down for 30 min would have done anything.

@ineebee: Thank you! Now I won't feel guilty on nights when I can't lie down. My RE's nurse drives me crazy.

@bhbee: Yeah I think you're probably right about anything with hormones causing it. Thanks for letting me know you didn't lay down either!

@Mrs Green Grass: Yeah, the morning one is no big deal, because I just wake up a half hour earlier and then lie down. I have trouble at night. I have to take my 2nd dose within 12 hours, and sometimes I'm not home from work at that point.

I had hot flashes but I think they were from other drugs I was using (not really sure). Anything hormone can probably give them to you though.
I also did not ever lay down!

Ditto what @PurplePumps said. I used it from my transfer up til 8w, 3x/day (2x would've been nice!!). I absolutely did not lie down afterwards. That would be so difficult to work out on a practical level!

@PurplePumps: Thank you! I'm glad you didn't lie down. I am having a harder time with the lying down at night because sometimes I have to work late and I'm not home. I ran into the same issue last cycle and I always felt guilty for not lying down. They definitely aren't going to fall out. Just wanted to make sure.

I used it for 2 weeks during an IUI cycle and only for 3 days this last cycle, but I don't recall hot flashes either time. I don't lay down for 30 minutes either, and wasn't told that was necessary. I was instructed to do 3x a day the last cycle, so laying down for 30 min at work for my afternoon insertion isn't exactly realistic either. It's not going to fall out, and there's gonna be leakage either way.

I am using Endometrin suppositories (2 x day) during this IVF cycle, and used them last cycle as well. I also had a PIO shot the day of my ER (Thursday) and I won't use the Endometrin tomorrow because I will have a PIO shot after my transfer.

I have been experiencing hot flashes today that have been pretty intense. I don't remember experiencing this during my first IVF cycle. Has anyone else had this side effect with Endometrin?

Also, did you all lay down for a half hour after using Endometrin? The manufacturer says you don't have to, but my nurse said to lie down. My nurse is notorious for giving inaccurate information, so I just wanted to see what everyone was doing.

Thanks! :)
