Get on the Lakeshore Learning catalogue mailing list - they have a lot of educational toys (boards for learning letters where you drag a magnet around the letters, for example) that could provide some quick inspiration for things to have around the house.

Also, keep in mind (if you're not already) that not all "enrichment" has to be academic. Perhaps think about activities that hone his fine motor skills? Working with manipulatives/counters in different ways (sorting pom-poms by size, color, etc. using tweezers, catching water beads wih various scoop tools, fitting pipe cleaners through the top of a parmesan cheese shaker, etc. If you feel like it, you can change up the items you use in these sorts of "games" to fit a theme (season? holiday? favorite animal? nursery rhyme?), but you totally don't need to for him to find it interesting. You shouldn't need to buy much, you can just use household stuff.

My daughter’s pre-k is reggio based and the first thing they would ask is, what is your son interested in learning about? Once you know that, loosely plan some activities that let him explore his interest. It doesn’t have to be anything Pinterest-y or complicated at all. If he’s interested in animals, go on a nature walk and look for nests or burrows, collect materials during your walk that animals might use to make a nest and make one of your own, or make one out of stuff you find around the house. It shouldn’t be complicated or stressful for you because he’s taking the lead - youre just the facilitator 😄

@irene: aw that's cute! He actually does know his letters, at least the capital ones. We could definitely work on lowercase too

I am not a teacher, but one game I played with DS back in the days was, I would write A-Z with chalk on the driveway. I would say, I want a... C! Then DS would have to find C and jump on it. So on and so forth. He loved it. We first worked on upper case letters, and then lower case letters when he was a bit older. I don't know if it is too much for 2.5 but DS started reading at around 3. If A-Z is too much, maybe try 0-9 first.

DS is almost 2.5 and we've had some challenges with his daycare lately. One of my concerns is that he isn't getting enough learning opportunities due to the unstructured environment at his center. It looks like moving him is not in the cards right now, so I'm looking for ways to enhance what I feel is lacking at "school" with more enrichment at home until he's eligible for 3s preschool.

I'm not a teacher, but I work with many teachers and I'm interested to learn more about age appropriate curriculum. I enrolled DS in a weekend music class that we've done before and enjoyed and I'm looking for other resources.

Any suggestions for parent-focused guide to Montessori, Reggio-Emilia, or art enrichment that is age-appropriate? I don't have a ton of time to search blogs and pinterest, but I'd like to incorporate some social-emotional skills, self-care, and definitely more art and creativity into our daily lives.

Feel free to tell me if it sounds like I'm helicoptering. I've been somewhat laid back up til now - he walked late and talked late and I just tried not to worry about it. He has turned into a very bright little boy and I want to give him every opportunity that I can
