@anonysquire: LOL @ the disneyland question, hahaha! I must say preschool def is an adjustment! For us it's def way more structured and more learning than before.

I agree with the rate of learning! It's not even been a month and we are spelling names, tracing letters/shapes. It's crazy!

Late to the party but my oldest started preschool in August. And she absolutely hates it. This is my independent, not shy child. She hates waking up early, refuses to get dressed or eat breakfast, cries at drop off. I talked to both her teachers and they say she's doing great in class and isn't showing any anxiety and seems to love it. Everytime I go pick her up she's holding her teachers hand which I find weird. I only find it weird because it's just not like her. I've tried talking to her to see why she doesn't like preschool and she tells me she loves it. And then the next day we have the fight again. She also says things like, "are you going to Disneyland while I'm at school?". So maybe it's just FOMO?? I don't know but it hasn't gotten any easier yet. But she's learned so much in 3 weeks. She can write her name, draw people and identify several letters when we are out and about.

@JennyPenny: Haha, no news is good news?! I know the first week or so is hectic and takes a while to settle down and maybe start getting some regular reports. I actually get the most glimpses of what her day is like from her, since she likes to pretend to be the teacher and takes us through her day!

Didn't get much of a report from DS last night. The thing he was most excited about is that they get to serve themselves at lunch time, lol! But he was excited to go back today so that's a good sign :)

Today is DS's first day of preschool! We did drop off this morning at the daycare and then his preschool teacher will come pick him up and they'll do a mini good-bye ceremony. Can't wait to hear how the day went...

DD1 (2.5yo) starts preschool on the 19th and I am so excited! It's a co-op and the 2/3s class does 2 days a week for 2 hours a day. I'm looking forward to her getting more social interaction with kids her own age (we've tried a bunch of mommy and me classes but nothing's really clicked yet) and building a foundation of learning as fun and play. I'm also looking forward to the parent education portion of it, and learning (myself) how to let her be more independent. Plus, I think it'll be good for DD1 to have something that's "just hers" once baby sister arrives in November.

Also, I got to go "back to school" shopping for her this year and basically that's all I've ever wanted out of life so I'm a happy camper.

@SweetiePie: our preschool does the home visits too (in NC). It was sort of a shitshow this year with a newborn and a potty training almost 3yo but DS can be slow to warm up so it's nice to be on his own turf when he first meets his teacher.

@SweetiePie: Happy Birthday! And boo that it's such short notice! And yes I totally feel like it's some surprise home inspection lol! I think they want to see them in their own element? And I feel ya about potty training. I've been totally taking the lazy/wait till she's ready route. She's pretty strong willed... Her last toddler room had been all about potty training and she's like, no thanks!

I don't know how I missed this post! Ds(20 months) will be starting a Mother's Day out program 2 days a week from 9-12. I'm super excited about it, I know he needs to be around other toddlers. It's going to be good for DH too because he's terrified of his child being being away from either one of us. :meh: tonight is meet the teacher, I'm nervous about that.

@Anagram: so odd!!! I would also prefer the school or my own home to the park.
I guess their reasoning for the home visit is to meet the kids one on one in a familiar environment? But still...I think it's so so so weird. It feels like an inspection or something!

@SweetiePie: Our pre-k program does home visits, but the last two years the teacher actually set up appointments in a local park. I actually think that's more strange, but I guess it's easier on the teacher because then the parents come to them. But if parents are going somewhere to meet the teacher, why not just at the school and call it a meet the teacher night instead of calling it a home visit but doing it at the park. So odd.

Omg got a call this morning about home visits for preschool! Anyone else have to do this or is it another stupid NYC private school thing. The teachers come to meet him in our apartment. It's only a half hour but wow so annoying. It's my bday so tonight after dinner I have to clean for tomorrow at 9am 😩 Fortunately just tidying toys and dishes. But man. Annoying!

@snowjewelz: well, it's going. Ha. We finally got poop on the potty but since then he refused and he'll hold it in. So I'm just trying to be more zen about it. I discussed with his previous teacher (who I know well) and she said honestly to just not put pressure and he'll do it when he's ready. She thinks going to school in the 3s program will be the good kind of peer pressure to get rid of diapers. And she said "he won't be wearing the in kindergarten. He's not the only 3yo to wear a diaper. Don't stress about this". So, I'm not. I ask and offer and do some diaper free time and he'll pee pretty easily. So if we can at least get to that point where he pees in the toilet but poops in the diaper once a day I'll be happy.

Today is my son's first full day. I dropped him off at 830, and he will be there till 4ish depending on when my husband can get to pick him up! Super long day to me, I almost cried at drop off. He did great because he's been at the school since January, but only for 3h afternoons. I am nervous because he's never napped at school before or even eaten lunch there! I think he will do great but I miss him. He will be asleep when I get home from work so I won't really see him till the morning! I don't work until 2pm and I am taking advantage of chores and watching tv :).

DD1 is in preschool through her daycare. She is 3.75 but due to school cutoffs is repeating the preschool curriculum from last year. I'm a little upset about it because I know she's ready to move on to pre-K, but it is what it is. My county charges tuition for children who are not 5 before the kindergarten cutoff and tests them prior to allowing them admission. I don't want to put her through that.

DS started a 2.5s program today. No tears (except from DH). I'm hoping this helps to spur some potty training.
She is the youngest in the class...it will be good for her. Its a co-op but with minimal parent involvement. She'll go 2 days a week but possibly more days/hours once the second kiddo arrives. Hopefully DH's work schedule can allow him to be class parent..I think he'd enjoy it!
