we're flying for the holiday weekend today with LO (14.5 months) so will let you know how it goes, but i'm taking:

- food: inner peas from trader joe's, cooked tortellini with no sauce, banana, grapes, blueberries, and a couple pouches in case of emergency.
- toys: small magnadoodle, stickers, magazine to tear, 2 books
- other: ipad with a sesame street episode. she has never watched it, but loves the Feist 1,2,3,4 song from it, so figure that will work in case of an extreme meltdown!

hopefully some of this works, but if not, we have 2 more trips in the next 6 weeks to try new plans :)

last time we flew with her at 9 months, all she wanted to do was pull out the magazines from the back of the chair. over and over. and eat the delta biscoff cookies!

Puffs, puffs, and more puffs. They are C's favorite, even when he is in a major fit, he will stop to say "Mmmmmmm" if I offer a puff to him.

He also likes the multigrain cheerioes. I brought a container of yogurt in my cold bag with some milk for the layover. I figured it was good protein that would last him a while since we weren't able to do our usual meals.

If you bring cold snacks in a thermal bag just ask for a bag of ice as soon as you get on the plane since you can't bring ice packs through security!!

@winniebee: what about a toddler busy bag?

Buckles, popsicle sticks w/ magnets on the ends, felt shapes w/ buttons, pom pom stuff it box, straws and strainer.... those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. And lots and lots of new snacks.

Yeah, I'd try to interest your child in one tv show before the flight. My 21 month old loves Curious George, and watching it on repeat got us through a recent cross country flight. That and lollipops, which she'd never had before. She did great.

Does he like shows yet? With a DVD player or iPhone/iPad you might be able to entertain him that way.

lots of snacks/drinks are helpful

What about a small packpack for him of a few new toys?

I bought my LO a bunch of new toys and she wanted nothing to do with them. She played with an empty bag of pretzels and a plastic cup the whole entire time.

@winniebee: At that age, the usual baby junk. It's just one day, so I say all the puffs, yogurt melts, mum-mums and pouches you can eat! I like teething biscuits because they take so dang long to eat, but they are SO messy. Also I can't remember if by that age my kid was able to just eat them instead of slobbering all over them.... Lollypops, if you're into that yet!

Agree with the above posters, lots and lots of snacks. My LO is around your LO's age and I've flown a bunch with her recently and have found this age to be hard in terms of getting her to sit still. Like @freckles said, I now find flying with my LO exhausting. Books, snacks, a couple of toys (but I would keep these to a minimum since they tend to take up lots of room in your luggage), and the iPad. Good luck!

Snacks are everything. We just got back from a mere 2 hour 15 min flight and it was exhausting. I find that toys or books do not keep her occupied. As long as she can move around, stand up, and check out the scenery, she is good.

Yogurt melts or pouches at lift off will help with the ears.

@looch: great ideas - he's never had a magnet or sticker book before and this could be a great way to occupy him. for at least 30 mins ;)

@lemondrop: that's the one thing about the ipad - he gets excited, smacks the screen and there goes that!

@sloaneandpuffy: snacks. please list! we have our go-to's, I'm curious what yours are!

Yes, snacks- lots of them. Fortunately I was still nursing at 14 months and got him to sleep that way. I also like the Sesame Street Super Grover Remote, it's pretty quiet, so he can play without being super loud. My iPod Classic was great too- I could put a movie on and lock it so he could push buttons without stopping it. I had baby headphones, but he wouldn't wear them, and he didn't need them.

Board books were nice to have too. I swear I read Zoo Babies 37 times during that day.

D you have a buckle pillow? My son was OBSESSED with it at that age, he couldn't do all the buckles, but he loved to try.

I also bring a dry erase board with the dry erase crayons, reusable sticker books and pretty much any other toy that he is into at the moment. I tried the window gel clings, but those were pretty much a bust.

Oh another thing that worked well was the magnetic books, the ones with the pocket in the back for the magnets with the magnetic pages. We have a Thomas one and a household one (in German) that my son loved.

What items would you bring to entertain a 14 month old on a flight. He is not a chill, cuddly baby, so I'm dreading this. I know to bring snacks, ipad, books, toys. But what specific toys would you bring? Help!
