I recycle all our pouches via Terracycle! I just keep a bag in the pantry for used pouches and then when it's full log in to my account and print a shipping label and mail them off! There are tons of odd things you can recycle via terracyle.

@Foodnerd81: yea i'm a big fan of throwing money at problems lol. But also my daughter just doesn't eat as well without a pouch. We use them far less now that she is 3. But being able to throw a 75 calorie snack in my bag that she will actually EAT when we have a long day at the zoo or something? its valuable to me.

@Mae: this! Hopefully they can do better, and I really try to do better myself with recycling and minimizing waste. But parenting is hard enough and some shortcuts are necessary.

This might incentivize me to pay a few cents more for better packaging I guess.

I'm glad people are talking about this and I hope baby food companies are pressured to design better packaging-- but I'm still using them.

I am just gonna have to feel guilty about it :silly: There is no way I am putting a glass jar of baby food in the diaper bag, so I'm sticking with the pouches when we aren't home for baby meals. I feel that I am offsetting the impact by making most of my baby's food at home.

@pachamama: I mostly used them for yogurt and applesauce but you could always pour glass bottle baby food in them!

@MrsSRS: oo that's true, hopefully they will be changing? But I think in reality most people don't recycle as much as they should.

I have the reusable pouches that I put smoothies and stuff in also but that defeats the idea of easy no-prep pouches for me!

I wonder if this is true for the clear plastic ones that just came out. It seems like those only have one layer.

We bought reusable pouches a few years back. They're not in great shape now so I should buy more. If you use them long enough it probably ends up being cheaper but the single use ones are so much easier.

I read this today. In the past I felt like it was the same as using baby food jars.

We recycle and compost and mostly cloth diaper so a pouch and a k-cup a day does not make me feel too bad. Our trash bin is tiny and we recycle 4x more than we throw away based on the size of our cans. Can't win them all.

Not like we need another thing to feel guilty about, and lord knows they're convenient, but I read this very disheartening read about the devastating impact of food pouches ...
https://www.yahoo.com/beauty/why-stop-feeding-baby-trendy-092002835.html

"The problem with the disposable pouches is that they’re made from multiple layers of materials and the recyclable components can’t be separated out."
"If the baby food industry doesn’t come up with a solution soon, the amount of plastic piling up from these products is only going to grow at an explosive rate."

wahhhhh why?! And why on earth would baby food companies stop making them? They're running to the bank!
