I'm an EPer and I pumped every. 2-3 hrs in the beginning till 12 weeks then pumped every 4 hrs and then pumped 4 times per day until this week and now I'm starting to wean for my return to work I do 3 times per day. I have yet to have a dip in supply although I imagine I will when I only do 3 for a while and then 2. It is what I am hoping for as weaning. Good luck and great job ! EPing is not easy esp at first .

I pumped every time they ate, so probably every 3-4 hours. and a hands free bra is a MUST!!! its seriously a lifesaver. i was able to do other things while pumping (like feed the baby a bottle) so pumping/feeding baby doesn't take double the time. i def think if you want to keep your supply up, then you'd have to pump every 3-4 hours until 12 weeks at least. its so hard to get your supply back up with just a pump if your supply starts to drop.

When I started EP'ing right away I was going every 2-3 hours during the day, but not at night. I was getting about 10oz. in the morning and about 4-5 oz. at the remaining sessions. At first when DS wasn't eating as much it was 50/50 breastmilk and formula. But, as he started eating more I had to give him more formula. EP'ing was so draining to only give it to him 30% of his feeds, so I stopped all together. I think you need to continue pumping until your supply is established.

@NovBaby1112: I got the PumpEase ... It is a total game changer - I'm able to colour with DD1, put DD2's soother back in, change my Netflix show on the iPad during MOTN feedings...makes pumping (almost) fun :silly:

@Charm54: I don't mind if I have to supplement, haven't had to yet but I don't really mind if I end up having to...I'm just sick of having to pump what seems like all day! 4x by 8 weeks sounds amazing though...

@Mrs Green Grass: I should probably buy a hands free pumping bra! Maybe that will help a bit

I would pump and feed at the same time...much easier. If either have lo on my legs or on the boppy next to me.

Definitely continue for at least 12 weeks, then you can reevaluate. I pumped every 3 pretty religiously and it was worth it having a decent supply...

With DD1 I aimed for 7x a day. She started STTN very early (4 weeks) so I stopped getting up in the MOTN to pump then and gradually started cutting back until I was at 4x a day by 8 weeks. I was okay supplementing with formula though so I didn't mind if I lost some supply, I needed some sanity (I didn't notice a drop in supply until I went down to 3x a day at 5 months).

With DD2 I aim 7x a day but in reality I only get 6. It's harder with a toddler running around. My supply seems okay, even higher than it was with DD1 so I'm not too worried. I pump once in the MOTN.

Im jealous of your supply!!

Every 2-3 hours during the day. I would pump after every middle of the night feed, which would sometimes be every 2-3 hours. Those early days are tough. Hang in there.

DS is 2 months and I still pump whenever he eats. That was every 2-3 hours in the beginning and now spaced a bit more although I try not to go more than 4 hours during the day. Ithink you want to maintain the frequency for the first few months so you don't lose your supply (sounds like you have a great one if you are getting so much per session!!) but more experienced EPers may have more insight!

I am exclusively pumping due to DS having a tongue tie and poor latch even after getting it cut. I'm wondering how often you all pumped in the early newborn days and at night. DS is almost 2 weeks and I've been pumping every 2-3 hours during day and about every 3-4 at night and I just feel like I always pumping! I'm wondering if I can cut back a bit? Right now I pump anywhere from 5oz - 8oz a session and LO only eats about 2.5oz per feeding.
