@raintreebee: I had a lot of discomfort from pumping. These flanges made a big difference, and I lubricate them with olive oil. That was recommended to me by an LC because it's a better consistency than lanolin for lubrication.

Thanks everyone, I changed falanges since my LC said I was borderline, pumped for longer, massaged, and did lanolin. All seem to be helping!

Your flanges may not be the right size. Also, how Lin. Are you pumping for? I found when I tried to cheat on pumping for less time it would occasionally result in a clogged duct. And, lanolin until you're used to it! Pumping takes a toll on your nips!

Are you sure you have the right sized flanges? You may need larger ones to eliminate the chafing. Not sure that would help with the clogged ducts though.

I applied lanolin before, to prevent chafing and I let my nipples air dry with a little bm on them.

For clogged ducts, I tried to lean forward when pumping to kinda let gravity help! Massaging during pumping helped too!

So my LO is on formula for two weeks to try to diagnose possible food allergies. Meanwhile, I am pumping six times a day to keep up supply so I can return to breastfeeding. Five days in, my nipples are so sore and I have a clogged duct. Is this just par for the course? Should I be doing anything differently, like pumping in the night? Should I apply lanolin or something afterwards?
