in situations like that I found that if I was around, DH would get frustrated much quicker and just want to hand her off right away. It's kind of like a sink or swim, where there is no other option (aka, you're not there) he will do MUCH better. I know my DH also had issues about doing it wrong in front of me, where he felt judges (even if I wasn't judging him). When he screws something up on his own, no one is there to say anything and he just fixes it on his own. Hope that makes sense?

@mrbee: It was chaotic, we have french doors on our bedroom so he opened one but not the other. There was also apparantly a dog incident where our chihuahua Pedro was in the way as well. It was a perfect storm and he lost his temper.

I'm sure it will get better! If there are no other options, he'll learn to do it.

It will get better!

Try not to "hover" and "correct". Let him do things his way and learn on his own! He will get the hang of it.

I find my DH does best when I just stay back in the bedroom and let him take care of her on his own. Plus it helps that she doesn't see me.

I think when are arent there, he will just have to figure it out, a sink or swim type of situation. Guys can be frustrating sometimes, because my husband is the same way

oh dear :( That slamming the head on the door frame has to be a common thing-- happened to us too! Once while I was rocking her to sleep I bumped her head on the corner of the crib. Sigh.

it WILL get better!! "baby boot camp" (as we call it when we "train" the grandmas to take care of our LOs) is always tough the first 24-48 hours! But he will get it, don't worry!!!

So, I have posted before about having to go to San Diego for a week of training. So I have decided to leave LO at home with DH for the week while I'm gone. So, last night I let DH try the night feeding (LO rarely wakes up for night feeding during the week, but weekend is different case). So, LO woke up at 9 pm (we put him down early) and I ask DH to go get him and give him a bottle. DH gets LO and as he's walking into our room to feed him LO throws his head back and slams his head on the door frame. LO erupts in tears, DH freaks out and loses his temper. So, I take LO and breastfeed him, he calms down. I put LO back to bed. When DH comes to bed at 11 p.m he wakes up LO, so I ask him to try again with the feeding. So, he gets a cold bottle from the fridge. LO takes one taste of cold milk and freaks. So, again, I take LO breastfeed and put him to bed. We are trying again tonight.. fingers crossed things get better.. they can only get better, right????
