Pressure. Much like when you have to poo. But I had to concentrate pretty hard to notice it. If the nurse said "do you feel that?" then I would concentrate and feel it. Otherwise I was too tired/felt sick and didn't notice. I did ask the nurses to just tell me when it was time to push, because I couldn't concentrate on feeling it for myself.

Actually pushing felt like just trying the hardest you can at, say, lifting something heavy. There wasn't a lot of sensation in that area aside from pressure, but you're just giving it everything you've got. My aunt described it to me before hand as 'trying to lift a lot of weight' - seemed pretty accurate to me. Like, imagine trying as hard as you can to lift your car, to the point where you feel like your eyeballs might pop out of your skull. That, to me, was pushing!!

I got a re-dose after pushing for a couple of hours because the epi wore off and I could feel EVERYTHING, AAAAH! Once that kicked in I couldn't feel contractions, but I think I could still feel a little butt pressure and was able to push effectively when they told me to.

I felt pressure at the start, but that went away. So, I mostly just pushed whenever I felt strong enough, every minute or two. I hated it - I couldn't feel anything. When I delivered, I asked 'is she out?' because she wasn't crying, and I didn't feel anything.

I hated it. I'll be naturally birthing any future children if there is any possible way to do it.

Yep, I could. I was 10 cm but he wasn't descending so they had to give me pitocin, and by the time he was low enough, the pressure was so bad I was breathing through contractions. Nothing like they'd been before, but I could tell when I was contracting. They had me do some practice pushes and once they could see he was making progress, I started pushing for real and I pretty much told them when I thought I was having a contraction, they'd look at the monitor and confirm it, and then direct me in pushing. Once he got close to crowning, the midwife was just directing me all the way. The pressure was so bad that it was definitely an incentive to push, even without true labor pain.

Felt lots of pressure but no pain except for one spot on my lower left side of belly where epidural kept wearing off at. The last two pushes I felt, and felt her leave my body but it was over quickly. Felt a bit of the stitches after my second degree tear but none of it was unbearable. I had some complications after delivery and doc had to go back in to deal with placenta, bleeding, and clotting so my stitches got messed up in the process and had to be re done. I can't imagine all of that going on without the dulling the epi provided.

I felt a ton of sensation, but not a lot of pain... it was mostly just extremely intense pressure. I felt a huge amount of downwards pressure with each contraction. Basically, I just had to push, so I did. I definitely felt the baby as she moved down the birth canal. I felt her crown, and I felt the ring of fire. It makes me kind of scared for what it would have felt like without an epidural...

my epidural was my most favoritest thing in my entire life. i swear it.

I labored to 10 cm, and a +3 station before I got it - so it did not have a chance to wear off whatsoever. I started pushing 20 minutes after getting the epi. Who knows if I'd gotten it at 3 cm or something (like I'd planned!) if it would have lasted? I'll never know.

Anyway - I was hanging out and could feel a pressure like I had to go #2, and the nurse checked and her head was right there. I couldn't feel her coming out, per se, but could definitely feel pressure. Not painful at all - more like a little uncomfortable, like you're pooing. That said, I didn't believe the OB or nurses when they said her head was out - I moved the johnny out of the way to peek!

Best part was not feeling any of the after parts. My epidural wasn't turned super high, obviously since I didn't need it for long - and it began to wear off within a half hour of being cleaned up. She was born 9:27 pm, and I was able to walk to the bathroom (though a little jelly legged) at 12:30 am when we got into a room.

I didn't feel a GD thing when pushing and hated that. My back and my right hip hurt like crazy (no waves/contractions) and my legs felt like they were on fire but I couldn't identify the contractions well and so I sucked at pushing.
Definitely not getting the epidural next time.

I felt a very, very uncomfortable intense pressure in my low pelvis when it was time to push. But other than that, I felt nothing. I was shocked when they told me I was doing a good job pushing because I couldn't even feel what I was doing. Next thing I knew, I was looking down to see her head!

I don't know exactly what a "good" epi is but mine worked well for me. I could not feel anything--no pain, no pressure, but was still able to push fairly effectively. I could feel the contractions by putting my hand on my stomach but the nurse also warned me when the next one was coming. So it worked great for me!

I had a brilliant epi (LOVE the anesthetist who placed it!) and didn't feel a thing, which was exactly how I wanted it. No pressure and no pain, but I was still able to push quite effectively. My contractions had slowed way down so it took nearly an hour to push DD out, but there were only 5 or 6 contractions in that time. I used a mirror to help direct the pushing and found that super effective, not to mention amazing getting to see my baby enter the world!

The nurses turned my epidural off with both kids before I started pushing, so I felt a lot of it. With DD, I started feeling more and more pain over the 30 minutes of pushing, but I was still numb enough that it wasn't unbearable. With DS, I swear they turned the epidural off too soon because I felt everything, including the famed "ring of fire." I had to have the placenta manually removed after DS's birth and that was the most painful thing I've ever experienced! And then I got to feel about 10 minutes of stitches on top of that, so yeah, I wasn't a very happy camper.

I got the epi about 45 mins before I began pushing, when i was 10 cm dialated (THANK you, nice nurse!) -- I couldn't feel any pain while pushing and didn't feel the rips or many stitches I got afterwards. I did know when to push though, b/c I could feel the contractions in my left leg. Weird, right? Apparantly it is common... it was like a big cramping pain -- painful, but NOTHING like actual contractions :)

I felt the contractions in my belly - rather than the awful back labor, they were like Braxton Hicks - painfree tightening. I didn't always feel a lot of pressure, but there were times it was obvious. Because I felt thr contractions, I was able to direct the pushing. As he was crowing, I felt some stretching, but no pain.
