They are awesome! My labor was pretty quick and steady after using it. I was somewhat on my side with it between my legs. They would ask me to switch sides every so often (my epidural didn't totally take so I switched sides on my own....nurses said most times they help you switch positions).

@T.H.O.U.: Also, in my own personal non-scientific and purely anecdotal experience, it seems to help turn OP (sunny side up) babies and get them in optimal position. I see a lot more OP babies turn with the peanut ball than without.
I would imagine it widens the birth canal and gives them the space to turn?

They gave me the peanut ball and within a few minutes I was ready to push- maybe a coincidence though?

I didn't know what a peanut ball was so I googled it. It's funny, even though I didn't have this during labor, I was in that position with my doula holding my leg up, for a really long time during transition! I think it helps!

Yes! That was the last thing they tried with me when it was looking like I needed a c-section because I was stuck at an 8-9 for hours. I was induced and progressed quickly until the end, when things stopped moving because my cervix was swollen. I was totally out of it from all the meds and they had me lie on my side and drape a leg over that peanut ball. It must have done the trick, because after a while I felt a super strong urge to push! I hadn't dilated any further but ended up only pushing 20 minutes at an 8-9 and he came right out.

@Arden: The nurses at my hospital swear by them...I think they called them baby magnets!

@T.H.O.U.: They are awesome! I didn't use one personally but I've had doula mamas with epidurals use them and I really think they help. I'm planning on buying one to bring to hospitals that don't have them when I start doula'ing again.

One thing that seemed to change at my hospital since my last delivery is the use of a "peanut ball" to help keep you opened up even if you are in bed for monitoring or an epidural.

What was your experience with them? Did it help? What positions did you use especially if you had an epidural
