I never remember comparing a gifts with my sister but we only got one or two gifts at Christmas. I think the same number but not the same value is fine.

I definitely compared gifts, but I also could count by the time I had a sibling.

Since you have more stuff for your 3 year old you could give her 2-3 presents at a time to open before turning back to your 1 year old to open a gift?

@sorrycharlie: do your kids share a room? If not, I'd get both girls a dollhouse and let them keep it in their room. I didn't have a lot of toys in my room but I did have a dollhouse and it was nice that it was off limits to my other sibs.

I'm worried about this too- DS will be 4 months at Christmas and we have so many toys from DD, I have no idea what to get. And I am sure DD (3) will notice if Santa doesn't bring him anything/as much (let alone coming up with ideas for grandparents so things are equal!) At one point I thought of wrapping some of the old toys we already have but am pretty sure DD will notice. So hard!

@sorrycharlie: I worry about this! I have a 5 year old, 3 year old, and 21 month old (he's two two days after Christmas!). My five year old will be counting and tallying up presents (it's totally human nature!). I'm not sure what we are going to do. I am shooting for one big present for each and then little stuff. I've already started shopping, but I'm going to wait to get the big kids stuff for when they start requesting stuff.

I'm running into this too! We have all the big stuff from Emme too so I'm drawing a blank on what to get Ev! I'm thinking of a teepee. We have a tent from Emme but it's huge so we never use it and it's been banished to a closet, so I've seen some cute patterned teepees that I think would fit in her room better. Ev's a bit younger than C so I think I'm going to get away with renewing our memberships as her "big gift" and just get her smaller toys/clothes to open. Em I think will be too concerned with her toys to hopefully noticed Ev's pile looking a little smaller ;)

I didn't even know this is a thing! My sister and I are so far apart that I don't think we had ever compared. Or rather, my parents were just like be grateful for what you get, lol.

@clover: This is what I'm planning on doing. My older LO will probably be getting less, more expensive gifts, so I'll just wrap multiple gifts for my younger LO together so that they have the same number of presents to unwrap.

@sorrycharlie: I'm no help since LO2 is not here yet for me, but could you wrap a bunch of small things together in the same box for your younger one? That way prior to unwrapping it looks like they have the same number.

I've done a bit of Christmas shopping and I'm trying to keep it organized this year - with two kids, I'm trying to keep it somewhat even. They may not "get it" yet (3 and almost 1 at Christmas) but I do! :)

My older daughter will have a couple pricier items (a dollhouse, primarily) - a pair of sneakers, and a kidizoom camera, magnatiles I got on clearance. They'll both get a good amount of books and of course stuff from family. I'm struggling with what to get my younger daughter - we have just about every "big" infant toy there is from my oldest. I have a couple things for her, but would like some ideas I might not be thinking of!

I hesitate to just get her a bunch of smaller items and have my oldest wonder why it's uneven. not that it's about the gifts, but let's be real - didn't we all compare piles? :P (kidding..!)
