I always take both. LO has a hard time sleeping on flights so if she starts getting overtired, I'll put her in the ergo and walk around or bounce her until she falls asleep. Once she's asleep I usually take her off and lay her down in her seat. I use the stroller to get through the airport because it's faster, especially if there's connecting flights. She's 19 months old but the last time we flew was when she was 15 months old. We're flying again in 2 days and I'll take both again.

@mediagirl: Lol, thanks. My main tip is to try to stay calm no matter what, bc if you become frazzled LO will, too.

I went through my setup several times at home so I knew exactly where I was. Still, at a few times I needed to splay everything out by the gate, to get reorganized. That's OK!

Good luck!

I took both. It was definitely helpful, she actually got super cranky in her stroller while in the airport because of all of the activity. I carried her in the carrier for most of our time in the airport. It's also helpful for those places where the stroller might not be convenient.

I voted both! At that age, LO was simply not content to be in his stroller sometimes and wanted to be held.

I took both (although city mini, not umbrella). And LO was 8 months, so older might be trickier.

I also gate checked her bucket seat and her city mini - not in bags - with Southwest and there was barely a piece of dirt on them when I got them back :)

@mediagirl: In that case, yes, I would definitely take both!

Here's a photo of our setup. I was also traveling wo DH. That's DD strapped in our Combi Coccoro stuffed into the UB Gluxe with the seat all the way reclined, diaper bag & coat hanging off the handle bars, another bag for everything in the basket. I wore the Ergo whether or not DD was in it. We flew from Boston to Seoul with a layover in Detroit. I couldn't have carried everything plus my heavy baby.

@mrsmate: she's the same age your lo was when you flew.
@plantains: I didn't even think about getting to our seat...good call. I can always just jam it in the overhead bin and strap it on me without her in it when we're in the airport, I guess.
@autumnlove: this time, no. My parents are driving up there and back so they are taking her carseat for me. When we go to Florida in October, yes. I'm still not sure what we'll do with it - stick it in a bag and pray for the best?

Take both. I used the stroller to push DD through the airport and stash bags. Then I gate checked it and put DD in the Beco because holding a squirmy toddler's hand while trying to find my seat on a flight is not for me:)

I vote both. I've traveled a few times and both are great for different reasons. Although I preferred the stroller in the airport and general walking, there were a lot of places it wasn't convenient to use a stroller (like the beach) and it was easier to have him in the carrier. I also would wear him on the plane (he was younger though, 7-8 months).

have fun on your trip!

I voted both but it depends on the age of your LO. I flew to Asia with DD when she was 14/15mo, and the flexibility of having both was indispensable!

M and I are leaving on a jet plane later this week without the hubs. I'm taking the umbrella stroller I got last weekend and am wondering if I should take the ergo or just put her in the stroller if she doesn't want to walk? I am only planning on taking a backpack and the stroller on the plane with us.

ETA: LO is 14 months
