@sorrycharlie: @rrachael: Thanks - I will definitely try using the little pillow like that.

@hilsy85: That might work for us, too! I'll try that method!

I guess if all else fails, we can wait a few weeks until she's more comfy with her legs splayed. I was feeling like it was a waste since we hadn't used it, but I'm sure we'll get more use out of it once she's a bit bigger.

@JerricaBenton: I had success with balancing LO's feet on the waistband, so they weren't splayed, but weren't tucked up to his chin either. That seemed to work for a few weeks until I felt he could comfortably splay his legs.

We actually used the insert sideways when ours were little. Its just the way they preferred it from our trial and error. So the insert just kind of cocooned them and their bodies faced to one side. Not a sanctioned use, but worked well for us.

@JerricaBenton: we also do the pillow only ... She sits on it like a little stool, so her legs are on either side but not all froggy style and not spread out either, does that make sense? :P she loves it but I'm looking forward to when we can not use it anymore so we can do a back carry :) (oh, she's 14lbs and about 24 ")

I used it without the insert - but, took the little pillow out of the insert and tucked that into the bottom of the ergo. i didn't splay her legs, but kinda tucked them froggy style :) it's starting to get muggy here (not sure where you live) but it was December when my LO was 3 months, so I also tucked a thin receiving blanket around her bottom half to help keep her legs pulled in/not splayed!

I started using it without the insert at 10 pounds and good head control (my lo is very small). The insert felt really wrong at that point.

I don't have his legs stick out, just folded under him, knees spread. He seems happy and the position looks like the pics...

My little guy hated the insert so we waited until he could use it without it. It was at about 4 months.

@oliviaoblivia: I'll definitely try it again - maybe she was just aggravated after me trying to squish her into the infant insert :) I just don't usually hold her that way so I assumed she wouldn't like her legs out like that but maybe it'll work.

LO grew out of the infant insert early. We didn't have a problem using it without. We splayed her legs (sounds funny) with her feet out. She never complained or seemed uncomfortable.

She has good head and neck control so I'm not so worried about that, it's more the leg situation.

So with the pillow at the bottom of the Ergo (without the infant insert), are the feet still coming out the sides or do you tuck them in to your stomach?

We used the pillow or a rolled up blanket. She was easily holding her head up by then, so I wasn't worried about head control.

We used the insert but we cut the pillow out so that her legs weren't restricted at all (still used the pillow, but her legs could go as they would without the insert) and that worked great for us. I think you could use it with just the pillow as that would be comfortable, but you'd have to support her head with your hands probably while she's so little.... sometimes we had to pull the fabric of the Ergo up because when we put her in it she wasn't sitting right at the bottom like she should and when we did that she was much more comfortable.

LO is a week shy of 3 months. She's probably 13 1/2 to 14 lbs and about 24.5 - 25 inches long. I have the ergo with the infant insert. The instructions say you must use the insert if under 12 lbs and/or under 4 months. I tried to put her in the insert but she hated it and it felt wrong. I think she's way too long for it and she doesn't like her legs all bent up to her chest. Also her head was totally out, so it wasn't offering support anyway. Then I tried to put her in without it but I don't think she's ready to have her legs splayed out yet. Does this mean we just have to wait to use it until she's ready to sit comfortably in it without the infant insert? Has anyone tried using the little butt pillow that comes with the infant insert, but without the infant insert? I tried, but at that point she was annoyed so I couldn't tell if that might work so that her legs don't have to be spread so wide.

She loves being in the K'tan but I was ready to try the Ergo since she's getting heavier, hoping for a little more support when we're out for a longer time!
