We used the hood a ton and Tula's hood sucked (in my opinion). The Tula's buckles also felt super cheap to me, too. That being said, people LOVE Tulas, and I think if you weren't going to use the hood a bunch, it'd be fine. The standard tula size will be work longer for your baby. We only had the ergo until my son was 8 months old, at which point he was close to 20 pounds and could get his arms over the top of the ergo and arch his back. When he did this it was extremely uncomfortable for me and really just the 20 lbs was starting to get uncomfortable.
