@sweetooth: Ooh, good to know I'm not the only one that took both estrogen and progesterone during the TWW. (Could it also have to do with the fact that we were at the same clinic? :) ) Anyhow, good to know that it probably wasn't a mistake.

I was also on the estrogen and progesterone suppositories during my second IUI. They had me start them prior to the IUI procedure and continue through the TWW. I don't know about them hindering implantation - but I don't think they would prescribe anything that would harm your chances.

I would guess that some of this is due to the fact that estrogen suppresses progesterone, and you need progesterone to be able to implant.

@ineebee: I haven't heard of taking both estrogen and progesterone during the TWW but everyone has a different protocol.

In situations like this I would recommend asking the doctor the next time you are there to go over the details about that cycle and specifically why you continued with both during the TWW

@mrswin: Thanks, that's helpful. Yeah, my E2 level was also high at trigger, but the nurse told me to continue with estrogen... (in addition to the progesterone I took during every TWW). I should've asked more about this, but had no idea about the connection between high levels of estrogen and hindering implantation!

@ineebee: I can't help on the suppository side of things but when I did my second failed IUI my E2 level was really high at trigger and they mentioned that I needed to be on progesterone because my estrogen levels were too high and could cause an issue with estrogen and progesterone being out of balance.

Both the RE and my ND have indicated that they believe that some of the challenges that women with endo have are related to high levels of estrogen hindering implantation.

I just read an article and was surprised by this line: "Increased estrogen levels decrease the opportunity for eggs to implant, thereby leading to a decreased chance of pregnancy and birth."

Soo...that made me think of my last IUI cycle where they had me on estrogen suppositories from O-3 to O to thicken my lining. Then, after the IUI, they had me stay on the estrogen during the entire TWW.

I'm not freaking out -- my RE's office is awesome and I trust them -- but I'm just confused. Does higher levels of estrogen really prevent implantation, or is there more to that story? Has anyone else taken estrogen suppositories during the TWW? Can anyone help me reconcile these two seemingly contradictory ideas?
