@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: very good points! That's what my gut told me but someone suggested otherwise so I was second guessing it.

I'd send the thank you's now...

1) let's the sender know the gift arrived

2) it's a surprise party, so for all you know the sender just plugged your name into gift registries online in hopes you had a registry so they could send a gift just because

3) it's a surprise party, so you don't know who is or is not coming

4) if they show up for the shower and sent the gift ahead then just thank them profuswly in person for coming. No need for another thank you note

I would send thank you cards immediately and if they show up to the shower thank them for coming.. no second card!

So I'm having a shower sometime in November, but it's a surprise. I know it will be on the small side and I know most of my out of town family and friends can't make it. But I've never had a surprise party before and a few gifts have started to roll in...am I supposed to send a thank you immediately? I assume yes because I always do, but I don't know if they are coming to the shower so it's a little awkward - do I send another one if they do end up coming to thank them for coming? Seems like overkill!

So, do I wait and send all the thank yous after the shower or send them as gifts come in and just not send another one if they do come? What would you do?
