@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Haha, I hope you understood what I was trying to say though! You could still have a "Business Fashion" component!

@T.H.O.U.: lol, the annual event the girls are participating in is actually a fashion show. The other activities are already set, but their is a window shopping activity where we can incorporate interview attire. I am sure some of these girls especially the HS students are applying for after school jobs or meeting with college advisors.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I would suggest maybe one of the events be a business dress requirement. So many do not know what business attire is. Things like strap width, skirt length, proper shoe/shoe height, etc. Appropriate style/amount of jewelry and perfume, etc. What to wear to an interview.

I feel like especially with sorority types, sometimes they loose sight of the need for business professional dress. Its not all about a fashion show, you should dress the image you want to portray.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: My mom used to chair "Take your daughter to work day" at her company and handshaking was always the first and last thing covered for the day.

A proper introduction includes saying your name. There are so many times I introduce myself and the other person just says hello. I'm not a mind reader.

So many great ideas!

@mrs. bird: Leaving voice mail

@T.H.O.U.: @matador84: I told my mom she should cover proper attire for all activities (interactions with her) at the kick off meeting, but I think sometimes people don't really know what that means. For this event I will have her set a specific dress code- skirts & dresses!

@Cole: I will make sure to give them easy ways to remember these things. There are two tricks for knowing which drink is yours. Low key make a "b" and "d" with your hands. B for bread plate and D for drink. Or left (hand) is a four letter word like food and right (hand) is a five letter word like drink. Just yesterday I used the trick to remembering names with a person over the phone: 1) Debbie answered up the phone, 2) Debbie is going to help me, and 3) Debbie put me on hold. Her name was Nicole!

Handshakes! My dad taught me how to shake hands when I was a kid, and it still surprises me to this today when people comment on how well & firmly I shake hands! Have you ever shaken hands with someone with a limp wrist? Blah.

Social media etiquette

How to write a thank you card -- "thanks for the cash." is not a proper thank you.

How to greet/say goodbye--- pleased to meet you & it was a pleasure meeting with you go a long way!

Oh I love this idea! I think touching on some of the out there etiquette for food is helpful. It cracked me up when I was at a very fancy dinner a few months ago and they served lobster and crab legs. Everyone was completely lost. It's shocking to me how often people are still confused by the location of their bread plate and drinks.

Thank you notes- it would be awesome to really go over when they are required too.

Tips on remembering names and a snippet of info about the person might be a good filler or ice breaker game if you need it.

oh please have her go over meeting people graciously! a 'pleased to meet you!' and a 'it was nice meeting you!' go a long way. maybe this isn't what she had in mind, but i would also include phone etiquette (and cell phone! put the damn thing away!), people these days are so intimidated by the phone because they don't know how to make a simple phone call, but people need to know how to call and leave an appropriate msg that is audible, isn't full of 'ummm' 'uhhh', and includes the information the person on the other end needs.

Oh, I'm so glad you are teaching them to write thank you notes. It saddens me to see the practice slipping from use, you know? And yes to social media etiquette. So, so necessary for kids now.

My mom volunteered to work with a group of middle and high school girls as part of a larger annual event her sorority is hosting. She will host a total of six activities with the young ladies before the event. As her dutiful daughter, I will assist my mom in her activities. She wants to invite the group over to her home for tan Etiquette Workshop.

The workshop will last no more than two hours. I think we should focus on five things or categories. My mom wants to teach them how to set a table and review table manners. I was thinking we should go over how to make an introduction, introducing others, handshakes, and how to keep the conversation going or simply the art of mingling. Perhaps we can teach them how to write a thank you note.

What do you think would be beneficial? We could even cover social media etiquette.
