@Torchwood: @Raindrop: @Raindrop: @jh524: @mrskc: Amazing advice thank you so much!!

I'm going to sell printable invitations / art prints, so I don't have to deal with the shipping aspect. I'm thinking I'll start with printable files and if it goes well expand to do print for you stuff as well.

I just opened it tonight with a few listings and am so excited! Thanks so much for all of your great advice.

You got some great advice already. Don't undervalue yourself. Take into account the amount of time an item takes to make & package up into your price. And surprisingly a lot of times, having a higher price, gets you more sales. People sometimes see a higher sale price = higher quality.

Also, open up an IG account and FB page for your shop to try and dive traffic there.

@HappyBaker: hi! What is your shop selling? Some tips I think are really important are taking great photos of your items. Using a basic backdrop, bright lighting and clear photographing is so important!! Also a clear and exact description, shipping and refund policy, so take your time and describe your policies clearly so there's no confusion or error.
Use all 14 tags & keep your item titles clear and descriptive.

Shipping has been the biggest learning curve for me so figuring out the cost of shipping , packaging & time included in the price for the listing is important. It also depends on what your selling in your shop. Each of my items are different so free shipping isn't a good option for my shop.
If you have more question feel free to message me :) good luck.

Oh I also set up a Pinterest for my shop and I had increase in sales since opening that up!! :)

I use to be really active selling on etsy before I was married and had kids so about 8 years ago and have been doing it off and on. Right now I’m just re-newing to sell my current stock but I’m thinking of going back to it.

I want to say etsy has changed a lot over the 8 years so make sure the tips you read are fairly new.

- Don’t renew more than you have to! It used to be when you renewed you got a millisecond on the front page so it was possible a potential buyer would see you especially if you renewed a bunch at once, sadly that’s not the case anymore. So if you see that tip don’t do it!

- Add as many descriptive tags are possible. This takes a lot of trial and error.

- I ditto the free shipping method. I used to have 5 dollars shipping + 3 dollars for any additional in the US and then I had international shipping for like 8 dollars and 3 dollars additional … I just went to free shipping and upped my price by 10 dollars. Crazy as it seems I actually seem to sell more that way.

- I never paid for ads but I heard it does work well. I actually always have low stock so I just never did anything big to increase sales.

- Always have a ton of stock in November for Xmas sales. Most sales for me happen around Xmas.

What works for me but might not work for others..

- I use up the 5 pictures that you are given to show off an item. I take front, side and back pictures and angle pictures. I like that but I know a lot of successful sellers that only use one or two pictures to show off an item.

- I ship fast… usually the same day or next day but I know a lot of successful sellers that don’t do that either.

I’m not sure if this helps you, but one of the big changes over the years that greatly affected me was the search is now ranked by how many views and sales an item has rather than how new it is (which is also another reason why renewing was a good method in the old days). So when you sale something make sure you re-list that item rather than creating a whole new listing if it’s not one of a kind (OOAK). The reason is when you re-list it still maintains the views and likes it had before it was sold and thus be higher up in the search results. I only have one of a kind items (OOAK) so this doesn’t help me.

Edit : If you ended up taking really good pictures... WATERMARK them!! People steal pictures all the time on etsy and sell a reproduction of whatever you are making. It is sad but true.

I found paying for the ads was more than worth it. It drastically increased my sales, far beyond what they cost me. Offer free shipping (and make sure that's in your title/description) even if you have to raise your price to do it. And good pictures are very helpful, but not 100% necessary.

I just decided I'd like to open an Etsy Shop and am a little overwhelmed with the 10 million results you get when googling Etsy Shop tips!

Wondering if any of you that have your own Etsy stores have any tips / things you wish you knew before starting / advice to share.

Thanks so much!
