@LuLu Mom: That's what I'd do if it were an option, too. We did this a couple times for concerts and took my MIL along with us so we could stay out as late as we wanted. It's just as cheap to rent a condo in most places as it is to book a hotel room.

I'd ask the friend for a recommendation on a babysitter who could stay in the hotel room. We did this recently and it worked great. Just make sure the babysitter brings an iPad or something because they'll be in a pitch black silent room for hours!

How close of a hotel could you get?

I would take her, if she falls asleep there, great. Set the baby seat in the corner and enjoy the night.

If she won't fall asleep, try to send one of you back to the room with her early.

If that is tough then go and just spend an hour or so there and then enjoy a night away as a family.

C would not be able to fall asleep out like that, so depending on how close friends we are, I would either see if a friend could baby sit in the hotel, bring her but plan for me to leave after an hour and Dh stay, or send Dh alone, in that order.

I think it depends on your LO. I could never do that with our little man, but I know other couples who would totally do that.

We went to a wedding in Nov with F who was 14 months. He's bedtime is 6:30-7. Dinner started at nearly 6, but we had snacks to keep him happy. When dancing started around 7ish, we put him in his jammies, I nursed him in a secluded area, & my husband walked him around the grounds. F fell asleep and we put him in a stroller in an area off to the side of the dancing/dinner space. He slept until we left at 9:30ish.

Could you bring something for her to sleep in? I think 1 night being thrown off won't hurt.

To me it depends on how close you are with the friend, how badly you want to go, and the friend's views on having a baby present. My baby is almost 6 months now and I'd send my husband alone if I wasn't close with the couple and/ or didn't really want to go. If we were serious about attending, I'd put the baby in pajamas and overnight diaper before we leave, and I'd bring the car seat since she sleeps well in it. I'd also be concerned about the noise level...we bought some baby headphones for our daughter (for use at a college football game) and I'd bring them as an option to put on her if it is loud.

We did it several times. Unfortunately, the night and next day usually suck for sleep but I think babies need to be adaptable and we don't follow schedules enough to miss out on events.

Depends on how flexible your LO is. Can she sleep through noise, nap okay in the carseat or in your arms, etc.?

For us, DS is pretty flexible (we're so thankful), so we'd go and accommodate his needs as we go.

Personally I would see if a friend/grandparent would come & stay at the hotel while you are at the wedding so LO can sleep & you can actually enjoy the reception Having her be with a babysitter but without doing the overnight thing, and then you can enjoy the wedding reception to it's fullest but also know that LO is close.

I guess it would depend on how close you are to the couple and if it's really important for your DH that you go. If that's the case I would probably go and stay for an hour or so and let DH stay for as long as he wanted.

We did this with a 4 month old. We took her with us to the ceremony and reception. She stayed up past her bedtime but did okay. She fell asleep in my arms at one point and I ate one-handed. We left when the reception really started going (after all the important stuff like cake cutting and all that) and she did great with the transfer. I would just prepare to be up for a little bit when you get back to the hotel room if she doesn't stay asleep during transfer from arms to carseat to crib/pnp.

Also, my husband and I are sleep nazi's so...it was pretty big that we kept her out past her bedtime. :)

One of Dh's friends has invited us to an evening wedding reception in March. Our invite says "from 7pm". The wedding is several hours away so we would really need to stay over and leaving LO with family overnight isn't really an option at this point.

LO will be 6 months old and her current bedtime is 7pm. We've stayed out and missed her bedtime a few times recently, but then put her down about an hour later--so not far off.

Would you...?
