@My Only Sunshine: That's so scary - I'm glad you're getting her to a new place.

@muffinsmuffins: That is terrifying!!

@808love: I'm so glad everything was ok. My oldest is getting very good at hide n seek and she will stay quiet when I call for her... there have been a few times where I panicked because I couldn't find her anywhere, and she only came out because I started screaming for her :-/

@My Only Sunshine: I am a teacher and I accidentally marked the wrong kid absent on my computer. It must have scared the daylights out of the family. Now I wish I had apologized when I saw the parent the next time. :(@muffinsmuffins: That is absolutely the worst nightmare! Did it get on the news?

Thank you so much. Surprisingly, though totally freaking out, I was able to keep myself calm. I felt like I had laser focus and this wall went around my heart so I wouldn't break down. DH was unreachable. My grandma had sounded so panicked. When I called my mom to check on whether she knew if my grandma had been acting strange lately, my mom sounded even more panicked. She kept saying JUst Drive! and sounded really scared. I just never know with old age and I wanted to have as much information as possible. My grandma had been on a trip for a few weeks and I hadn't seen her since she got back. I thought about calling the police, just in case to have them on standby and was praying. Just then I got the call she was safe. Ahhhhh!!!! DH found out about it all after the fact.
When I got home, I kept apologizing to my grandma because it was really hard to see where Lo had hidden and my grandma was all sweaty looking for her. Whew!!

Thank goodness! Not me but a good friends son wandered out of the grandparents yard when he was 3 a couple years ago. My friend was 2-3 hours drive away at an event when they got the call. Police and volunteers scoured the area which was near water and forest. His uncle found him somehow hours later in the pitch dark clinging to a tree, soaking wet and covered in bug bites. He was ok in the end thankfully. It gives me chills to think of what could have happened. My friend told me on the long drive back, her and her husband were honestly thinking of his funeral they were so distraught. Every parents worst nightmare!

@808love: so scary!! My daughter's daycare called a couple weeks ago at like 9 am to ask if she was coming in that day. I thought my husband had dropped her off at 7:30. I was in an instant cold sweat. I was sure it was like those news stories where a parent accidentally leaves a toddler in the car all day after forgetting to drop them off at daycare. The director ran to the classroom when I told her I thought my daughter was there, and sure enough she was sitting at a table coloring. She had apparently been in the bathroom when someone came around to do head count. Worst 30 seconds of my life.

For a few reasons (but that incident being one of the final straws) we're switching her childcare this fall.

Today I got a call that my daughter was missing. LO's great grandma has been watching her at our house lately. She is 94, lives alone, catches the bus, cognition is still sharp and very strong willed and independent. So I am teaching a summer course and my Grandma rings and says LO is missing. She was in the back room and now she's not. She looked everywhere and even called to LO telling her that I was on the phone. No answer!! Just disappeared with no trace. I told her to KEEP LOOKING and hung up.

Thinking of all the million things that could have happen, I grabbed my purse as I flew out of the room and told my colleagues what happened.

Over thirty minutes later I neared the exit to my neighborhood and the phone rang. Lo had fallen asleep while hiding in the blanket. It really was super hard to see her as our duvet is very textured. It looked totally flat. She was super sweaty, still sleeping when I came home but fine. I was so relieved. Everything else in life seems like a piece of cake now that I lived through my scariest fear.
