I do sometimes. She definitely doesn't eat as much as she should. But luckily I don't have to worry about her veggie intake, she will eat almost anything that's green, so broccoli, kale, spinach, and peas are always in rotation. Beans are a hit and miss. So is sweet potato. And most meats unless they are doused in tomato sauce.

When she doesn't eat dinner sometimes she'll want Cheerios and then I feel bad about her eating that :(

She's 13 months.

The thing that helps me is to remember what a lot of nutritionist say about a child's eating habits. Look at their weekly intake rather than daily! If I look at it that way it's much better. Currently we're going through a really good eating stage. But she does have moments where she won't eat a or b. But lately she is loving spoon feeding herself. So if it's on the spoon she won't let one morsel go to waste!

She's currently 13 months.

@rachiecakes: I love my son to pieces but he is a freak. Sauteed portabella mushrooms, roasted butternut squash, greek yogurt and canned green beans- these are the only foods he consistently eats. And now that winter squash is out of season I'm f'd :)!

This is the thing that will put me in such a bad mood and feel like a terrible mother. It isn't so much that he isn't eating the food we prepare, I just want to know that he is eating and getting enough nourishment. It is a double edged sword that the nanny "never" has problems getting him to eat (so I feel even worse) but at least I know he is eating a lot of veggies and fruit with her.

ETA: I went away for work a few weeks ago and hubs fed him pretty much just bananas and avocado. He tried to convince me that avocado was a vegetable and it had a lot of protein. Again, at least he was eating with the nanny during the day....

A million times YES!!! My son is 14 1/2 months and I feel like every weekend I have a mini-breakdown after I spend all of my free time cooking food that he won't eat. I scour Pinterest for ideas and recipes and not one thing I've made from scratch has he liked- chicken nuggets, meatloaf, pizza. Any food that kids usually like- he doesn't. The only meat he will eat is lunch meat. This weekend I tried a homemade mac and cheese recipe off of Weelicious which had veggies mixed in and he wouldn't even try it. I feel so defeated :(. I don't have any advice- just wanted you to know I'm in the same boat!

@rachiecakes: Yeah, I definitely feel like I'm going to have to engage in a little "trickery" to get veggies in at this point!

@meredithNYC: we're vegetarians and sometimes I feel like DS is carb'ed out. I've had some luck with sneaking more veggies into rice and pasta dishes and those squeeze pouches with veggies mixed in are sometimes a hit, too.

My LO has been eating so much more as she gets older! We had a time where I would always have to make her a separate meal because I always knew she wouldn't eat what I made. She didn't like any meat when she was 16 months old, and we usually eat meat!

Now at 22 months she will usually eat what I make. I think it also has to do with the fact that she's now at the "I want only what's on mommy's plate" phase so if I give it to her off my plate, she will eat it.

@Kfamilie: I'm a WOHM and today I called home at lunch and hubby was all upset that DS wouldn't eat anything for breakfast - no yogurt, no fruit, no toast, nothing. He's 17 months old.
He took a nap around noon and woke up at 2pm and ate a million spinach raviolis.
He goes through these patterns where he refuses everything and then eats everything in sight. We always offer him meals and snacks throughout the day, sometimes he wants them, sometimes he doesn't. It's soooo frustrating but I think it's normal for this age. :/

Totally! LO is 12 months old and for the most part, she's a decent eater, but I worry all the time about her vegetable intake. I just really, really, really don't want to have a picky child, though I know to some extent it's out of my control.

My hubby keeps reminding me that I'm doing my best but sometimes it's just soooo discouraging when LO refuses to even touch the food I made. I would actually say he eats pretty well for a 16 month old but I start to worry about giving him a wide enough variety? The questions I ask myself are basically alll worrying about whether I'm giving enough of a good foundation for a *hopefully* more adventurous eater later. I try not to force anything or make a big deal about it so that there are no "food wars" or tantrums. LO gets fruit and toast if he refuses everything else.

Anyone with older LOs who became more ready to try new things over time? Any others who can feel my pain of spat out food and/or refusal to even taste something?
