@rahlyrah: I had lice when i was young from a sleepover. usually it'll only spread if it can crawl - like sharing a pillow, or comb, or elastic etc. and you'll see the louse crawling in your hair, as nasty as that is. eggs are right near the root and shaped like a sesame seed, but smaller, from what i remember. they are almost like dandruff but do NOT easily brush off when you try. hope that helps some! they are a B to get rid of!

eta - as nasty as it is, maybe google images search so you know what to look for?

I just checked my scalp (what I could see anyway) and it looked clear. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

@googly-eyes: I actually have a little in the house that I bought a few months ago simply because I liked the smell. Lol. There is enough left for a few washes. Luckily, I have a bad habit of never finishing a bottle of shampoo before starting a new one! I ordered the Trader Joe brand from Amazon (2 day shipping). It has good reviews so I hope it works!

I have heard that about tea tree shampoo too but I'd go out and get it ASAP, lol. Hope you didn't get it!!!

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I really don't want to use any chemicals that could possibly absorb into my system. I read online that shampoo with tea tree oil works well so I placed an order on Amazon.

@chrispygal: I dry and flat iron my hair. I hope you're right :)

I had this happen, and my daughter was over the house too. I was paranoid for DAYS that I would catch them. Look near the roots of your hair, and I believe they said they almost look like extra big roots. They hate high heat so if you use a blow dryer and flat iron you may be ok. This is why adults don't get them as often as kids. I hope you don't get them.

For what it's worth, I have two sets of good friends whose kids got lice. They are neat freaks. The kids picked it up at a birthday party. It is totally gross, but it happens. Oh, and the process to kill the lice is terrible and time consuming. Your sister is probably quite busy washing everything in sight and treating everyone in the house.

Yikes, that's awful! Haven't had to deal w/this (yet anyways) but I would agree w/@Mrs.Someone: and @evansjamie: and just treat yourself as if you did, as a precaution. :(

It might be a good idea to go ahead and treat as if you did have lice (if you can find a lice medication that is pregnancy safe). I'm sorry you were exposed!

Yuck! I had it in 2nd grade and it wasn't fun... But you could get some of that lice shampoo in hopes of killing any trace you might have picked up before it gets worse? And wash all the clothes you were wearing too.

I hate worrying about lice. I have three girls and we all have really curly hair- I am convinced at some point one of the girls will bring it home after sharing a hair pretty or hat.

It sounds like your sister had a super busy weekend and was probably trying to settle after the party and probably take lice precautions in their house. At least she did tell someone and they are passing it along (the news, not the lice).

Uggggh, not fun. Hopefully you don't end up having it! I had it one time in 4th grade... NO clue how long it would take to appear, but here's hopin' you don't have it!!!

If you catch lice, how long does it take for symptoms to appear?

I was at my sister's house on Saturday for my nephew's birthday party. My mom just called me and told me that apparently my sister's stepdaughter has lice. Gross!

First of all, I am irritated that she didn't have the decency to call and me and tell me. That is a separate issue though!

I didn't have any direct contact with the little girl but I did sit on the furniture and spent several hours in the house. I haven't noticed any itching up until this point. I'm not sure how long it takes for symptoms to appear though? Ugh.
