@bluestriped bee: @Mrsbells: I do offer the bottle first, the one he refused was his right before bed one the night before last. Today he hasn't refused any! 😄 So I'm wondering if it was a fluke or just him possibly teething. He is trying to stretch his bottles 4.5 to 5 hours now, instead of 3 to 4, based off what everyone says that seems normal. I hope.
@wrkbrk: lol I swear we have he same kid! DS was 90 percentile at his 6 month appt. so I'm not worried either, I think it just freaked me out, because he loves to eat! I think he peaked at 36oz. Now it's about 20-26oz.

Eta - for perspective DS ate 40 ounces a day at six months right before we started some solids!!

@Jackiedavis87: My DS, like always, is similar! He is 23 pounds, 9 months, and takes about 20 ounces a day now. Our issue is that he started daycare and there's so much to do there he won't sit still to take bottles! But he's 98% in weight so we are not worried. Haha.

My son started self weaning around 9 months. He refused to take more than 24oz at 6 months and flat refused more than 22oz at 9 months. We were literally struggling to get him to take 16-20oz a day actually. We prepped four 6oz bottles a day and he would take like 4ish. He had 3 small meals of purée plus some finger foods every day. Doctor said he was on the early side of weaning but that I should shoot for 16oz minimum for hydration. He slowly decreased his intake and was barely at 16oz by 12 months. Doctor said as long as he had at least 8-12oz of milk and some extra water he was fine. He stuck with not really liking milk until 18 months and now loves it.

I agree with @Mrsbells: I give the babies their bottle first then solids. Sometimes if they don't finish their bottle, I might be able to get them to take a few sips while they are eating solids.

@Jackiedavis87: If he is refusing the bottle for solids you might want to offer the bottle first when he is hungry and give less food. Because formula should still be his main source of food til his first birthday

At 8/9 months, he took the max- 32 oz (4 bottles of 8oz per day).

He was also eating 2 meals of purees.

Thanks ladies! This has made me feel better, it sounds like DS is just ready for more solids. Guess we'll be adding in lunch. 😊

24-30 ounces a day at almost 10 months old. 6 ounces bottles. She gets a lot more food too. Banana bites and Cheerios at home, then yogurt with fruit, a muffin, a pouch, and another jar of baby food at daycare, and something at home for dinner.

At 8/9 months he was having four 7-8 oz bottles a day plus 3 meals of solids (purees/yogurt/etc).

So 28-32oz of formula plus meals. But as @2PeasinaPod: said, he didn't always finish them. I stopped worrying about whether he finished bottles or not at that time because he was also getting solids and I did read that they would slowly start decreasing formula oz around that time.

I think at 9 months he was still taking 25-30 oz. Around 11 months he was eating so much he didn't seem to need his mid day bottles, so we dropped those. Then he was on 12-18 oz depending on nighttime wake ups. At 12 months he got roseola and had many now bottles while he was sick. But as soon as he was better he stopped needing them. Now at 12.5 months he's basically bottle weaned except if he wakes up at night, which happens maybe 1/2 the time. We are trying to get him used to milk in a straw cup in the hopes that that will soothe him at night. So far he still wants a bottle.

I think at that 9 months point, the babies were drinking about 6 oz at each feeding and about 3-4 times a day.
But we were giving them solids at each meal (after each bottle) and about 10 months, we noticed that they had trouble finishing the 6 oz.. so we cut back to 5 oz.

At almost 12 months old, I'm thinking we might cut back to 4 oz soon, but then they'll be super hungry and finish their bottles. So they are still at 5 oz. They are really liking their solids so I'm sure very soon we will go to 4 oz.

This is about the time that your LO will start to drop off of liquids and eat more solids. My LO is a tiny little dude, but loves to eat. He'll have 4 6-7 ounce bottles/day, but he doesn't always finish them. I'd say if he does, it's a max of 28 ounces in one day. If you want, try introducing a sippy of formula with his meals. That might get him into drinking more while he's eating and cut down on the actual bottles. It will also make it easier for you to wean from bottles when he's a year.

I think DS was at his maximum amount of formula right around that time - probably about 30 oz/day? As he started eating more solids, he naturally started drinking less formula, which is what it sounds like your LO is doing!

How many ounces is/did your 8-9 month old take in 24 hours? My DS who is 25lbs (obviously loves to eat) has decided to start refusing bottles. I don't know if I'm just over feeding him bottle wise, or he just loves food, so he doesn't want a bottle? Either way it's freaking me out, I don't want to be worried he's not eating enough?! So how many bottles or how many ounces a day did your LO get(s) ? I also feed him breakfast and dinner right now. Breakfast consist of a bowl of rice cereal with bananas in it or banana yogurt. Dinner is a stage 2 container of a fruit or veggie mix.
