i ran a couple times, but then i felt weird about it dislodging it or something silly, so i stopped. hiking is great though, if you have some places nearby that you can go. more interesting than walking and you can enjoy the views. i am still hiking at 26 weeks and its pretty much the only exercise i get (i.e. not a lot at all).

Great ideas. I tried biking the day after my BFP and I felt a slight uterine cramping. I found a little brownish discharge and it might be from implantation bleeding. Today's workout was smooth so I think I'm safe. Thanks everyone.

You'll be fine to continue those workouts. I continued my boot camp and spin classes 4 days a week all through my first trimester. I modified anything super high impact and just listened to my body and slowed down if I needed to. I continued the workouts through the middle of my second trimester and kept up spin/treadmill/elliptical until early in my third trimester, then it just got to be too much. I am 3 weeks post delivery and can't wait to get back at it!

I ran up until 8 weeks (up to 10k per run) but stopped because it was getting super hot and i was worried about overheating. There are mixed opinions about the maximum heart rate...someone told me i had to keep it at 140, which was impossible! I kept my HR at about 160, but allowed it to go a little high (170), as i got it to drop pretty quickly to my resting heart rate when i stopped running.

After that, i did vinyasa and hatha yoga as well as walking up until a few weeks before my due date.

Do what you feel comfortable with, and walking and biking are two great forms of exercise during pregnancy. It'll help keep the excess weight off. ;) Also, remember to hydrate!

my doctor told me the same thing as @Smurfette: , that anything you did before you could continue doing as long as you felt comfortable (i.e. no racing heartbeat, faintness, dizziness).

I was afraid to keep exercising at first, but the nurse confirmed it was fine to keep doing what I was doing, so I went back to zumba today for the first time in weeks and it felt awesome:)

I wokred out almost daily until I was told to stop due to my BP. I did the elliptical, took spin classes, and swam. My doctor had me keep my HR at like 15-160 because I was active before my pregnancy. I was so dead exhausted my first trimester that it helped with that a little

Man, all I have done this first trimester is walk from couch to bathroom and back. Except for my trip to Paris, when I walked for miles and miles just a few weeks into the pregnancy and still felt great. But now that I feel like crap, I can't make myself do anything! This might be different if it wasn't summer and I didn't live in Texas. I have much respect for anyone who is exercising during this time!!! -pats on the back-

A lot of pregnant women have said that hitting the gym helps with nausea.... just throwing that out there. :)
You can definitely still walk and do the stationary bike. My doctor told me to not do anything cardio-wise that would not allow me to carry on a normal conversation while doing it. For me, that meant I could still run (although at a slower pace), do the elliptical, bike, whatever, and I've maintained doing light weights for toning my entire pregnancy. I'm 34 weeks pregnant, and the only place I look pregnant is in my belly and my boobs- everywhere else has stayed exactly the same, vs my pregnant friends who've dropped the gym entirely, ate nothing but carbs, and then wonder why their butts and thighs have mysteriously gotten so big.....
Swimming is also REALLY good for pregnant women, although I haven't tried it out yet.
Bottom line, stay active, it's so good for you, which in turn is great for baby.

My doctor told me that anything I was doing before I can keep doing, even crunches. I have read only do crunches up till the 2nd trimester, but then I also heard they are fine up until 20 weeks. Going to ask my doctor about them once I hit the 2nd tri. I am 6w3d and I am still going to the gym. Although last night I did get nauseous when I was lifting weights, so I just did the elliptical and I was fine.

Walking and biking were exactly what I did when I found out I was pregnant! Exercise is definitely good for you as long as you don't do anything new or too high impact. I think I read that you should keep your heart rate under 140 while pregnant.

Of course, then I got sick, got nauseous, and fatigued, so I haven't been back to the gym in 3 weeks. Oh well!

Any experiences/recommendations of exercising during first trimester? I'm only a few weeks pregnant and I'd like to continue some of my exercise routine, such as walking and biking on a recumbent stationary. Of course, nothing high impact but something to keep me going.
