Absolutely do it. It's never bad to get your body in the best shape possible while you're trying to get pregnant. Honestly my doctor told me not to worry about adjusting my lifestyle until I see a positive pregnancy test so that's what I did.

I've never heard of working out to be a bad thing for any health or medical goal you are trying to reach! On the contrary it seems to be the 'magic bullet' that helps so many organ/bodily functions, mood, circulation, weight, etc. Agree with the others that if your doctor says slow down after you conceive, I'd listen, but haven't heard any reason to not exercise while TTC.

Plus when you DO conceive, you'll be in that much better shape to continue working out during your pregnancy :)

I've read a lot about what is good and bad to do before ad during TTC, and starting am exercise regimen is uniformly considered a good thing to start both for fertility and your health during pregnancy. Of course, extreme exercise can also mess with your body ovulating, etc, but I think that's more of an issue for professional athletes, or very intense amateurs. I would say to go for it!

I also agree that starting to exercise now wouldn't hurt. I started a more regular work out routine since TTC. My reason for starting was that I want to be healthy and strong for a pregnancy. I discovered that I love going to the gym. :)

Thanks ladies! Sounds like starting exercise isn't a bad idea as long as I don't over do it! And I agree - I think relieving stress at the gym might help us too!

I would work out. My doctor told me at my annual (and pre TTC appointment) that once we start TTC and even get pregnant to just keep doing what I have been doing. So that is going to be my plan.

I can see slowing down a little in the 1st trimester. Like maybe walking verses running.

TTC is stressful so I personally think the gym is a great place and way to relieve some of the stress.

I don't think there's a bad time to start working out. :) With pregnancy you'll have to be a bit more careful about how hard you push yourself, but there are so many exercise options to choose from it's really not a problem.

Before the morning sickness hit, I was doing everything I normally did at the gym (including weight lifting and cardio with high heart rates), and it never caused a problem. I cut back when I started getting sick, and have every intention of resuming normal activity in another week or so (though I won't be able to lift as much or run as long as I could a few months ago!).

Your overall health, strength, and endurance are very important in pregnancy and childbirth. I'd pay as much attention to that as to your diet/nutrition!

From my research it is better to get in shape now (and while TTC) and then slow down once you actually conceive. Being healthy can help the process of getting pregnant and can make being pregnant that much better.

Even if you don't work out regularly if you throw in nightly walks it can really make a quick difference.

I know that exercising is fine while TTC and that you should keep up your routine (or maybe lower it) for the most part but...

I haven't worked out regularly for a while. I'm curious if starting to work out would be a bad idea while we're trying? Or it could be good because it'll get me in better shape and possibly lower stress, etc?

What do you all think?
