@Smurfette: It *is* exhausting! I seriously underestimated the impact that pregnancy would have on me (physically). Even though I could close my door and nap at work, I never did . . . but I did constantly worry that I was going to fall asleep! Several times, usually after work, I fell asleep mid-sentence (and fully upright) during conversations with DH. >.<

I just tried to sleep as much as possible - I modeled the behavior of my kitties (sleeping/napping as much as possible!). Caffeine had little to no impact on my alertness/ tiredness. I was just so stinkin' tired all the time! It finally got better right around 14 weeks. Hang in there!

@MrsKC: Ditto with the early bedtimes. Sometimes I would come home and go straight to bed (around 8:30/ 9:00), and sleep straight through. No matter what time I went to bed, on the weekends, I rarely woke up before 9 a.m. (I usually wake up around 6:30ish on the weekends).

And now, at almost 33 weeks, I find that I am starting to need to shut down earlier at night, too. Not quite as much as the first trimester, but boy do I love to get my sleep on! :P

@Adira: Maybe a little of both. In the beginning for me it was definitely a lack of caffeine. But now I'm way more tired than I ever was anytime I ever cut out caffeine, and normally things would equalize for me after being off it for a few weeks. Not this time! Little bean is definitely sapping my energy all on its own.

@Smurfette: haha, I know what you mean! It's so hard to get through a workday without falling asleep, and then when I get home, all I want to do is nap!

@Adira: Pre-pregnancy I was drinking one Diet Coke with lunch and I am still doing that (my doctor told it me is more then fine). So I guessing it is the whole growing a human inside of you. Amazing how something so tiny is wiping me out. What I wouldn't give for like 5 more DC's a day.

@Smurfette: haha, that sucks! The couple times I've had morning sex, I was all "Do you mind if I sleep through it?" I'm sooooooo tired in the morning, although now I'm tired all the time, which sucks. I'm curious if it's the pregnancy that makes us tired, or the sudden lack of caffeine!

@skipra: I am getting up a minimum of 2 times during the night to go to the bathroom. I can usually fall asleep pretty good but then I am not sleeping good, so that isn't helping the situation. I have to get up every 30 mins to use the bathroom at work, so that is helping me from falling asleep at my desk too.

@Smurfette: I didn't have the option to nap at work either because I sit in a cube and take public transportation - plus first trimester was during winter so I couldn't just find a spot outside. To cope I went to bed early, took a nap after work if I had to, and tried to get outside for some fresh air and a walk whenever possible. I found morning walks to be especially helpful. Getting up from your desk and taking frequent short breaks might also help. I think my biggest problem was the fact that I started waking up in the middle of the night to pee and sometimes had difficulty falling back to sleep. I don't know if you are also experiencing that, but a glass of milk worked every time.

@mrskc: I've done that!!

I have taken to sneaking in cat naps at my desk, too. I'll close my office door (it's glass, but still) and turn on my fan and turn my desk around so nobody can see me. It's not at all restful, but it's something. I can't really sleep in my car, it's too hot plus it's in the employee parking lot and I'd be paranoid somebody would walk by and see me. Only a couple of people at work know!

DH has been so awesome about letting me sleep, Saturday night I felt so lame but not only did I take a nap in the middle of the day, but I was asleep by 8! And I took a big ass nap in the middle of the day Sunday while he did laundry. He actually made me do it, because I was huffing and puffing I was so tired lol.

@Adira: LOL! Yeah the lights will go off in our work bathroom after about 5 minutes. But I know that I can wave my hand and they'll come back on, so someone will know I'm in there in case they walk in. I did walk in on someone one time and they were in there with the lights off. I totally had no clue anyone was in there until I was washing my hands. My first thought was good thing I wasn't talking to myself in there. lol

@Smurfette: Once the systems are all in place you'll get a big break. Plus the placenta will start to take over so the baby won't be leeching from your body as much anymore. I bet you'll feel like a brand new woman soon enough! I really couldn't believe how exhausted I felt, but today and since week 11 I've felt almost totally 100% normal.

There were days at the beginning when I went to bed at 6:30 PM and didn't wake up until it was time for work again the next day. I occasionally would take a walk or do light exercise and that did give me a little boost if I absolutely needed it. Otherwise I just rested. I promise you will get your energy back soon!

I am in a cube, so I don't see how I could sneak a nap in. My desk chair is high so I might be able to just slouch and try and sleep with my head up. Problem with cubes is you never know when someone could just walk up. I thought about my car at lunch, but it is so hot out I would have to have the car running the whole time. Then I would worry I would run the battery out.

@highwire: I told DH this growing a baby business is exhausting. He is being really supportive about me going to bed so early and all. I hope I get my energy back at week 10 like you!

@MamaMoose: Last night I will say the gym gave me more energy so I didn't fall asleep at 7!

Cat naps didn't really help me. They made me feel even more tired. I honestly don't know how I made it through those days. I was SO tired & sick. I would make sure to get to bed early. I remember knocking out before 8 sometimes. Try to rest up on the weekends. I would take super long naps on the weekends. Maybe try sucking on some mints or hard candy through out the day. Hang in there!

ETA: Oh and listen to your body. Don't try to do more than you can. Just rest if that's all you feel up to. Your body needs the rest during this time. It's working overtime right now!
