Our center sends an email at the end of each week with updates and the following week's menu, and info about teachers leaving or new ones starting would be there. Fortunately, they have pretty low turnover so it doesn't happen very often.

I'm starting to work at a daycare as a teacher soon and they always have a new teacher/helper write a letter for parents when they start and when they leave. We also got a letter today about some current staff switching age group rooms and our daughter moving to a new room. I really like how personal it is. We go to a small center that strives to be family-like.

@Anagram: Yep. I've just had to introduce myself. Not a problem, I like meeting them. :)

I think I expected a little more Kumbaya and warm fuzzies, ha.

My daycare always posts an announcement on the door AND they introduce themselves in person.

Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to them!

@littlejoy: I guess because my daycare is a big centre (90 kids from 1-11) and I don't know everyone that works there. So if someone from another room is filling in, I don't know who it is. Plus, parents come in to pick up their kids and they often say hi or have conversations with the kids. I don't know who they are either. Maybe that's why I wouldn't expect anything formal.

@Grace: It's our first time doing daycare, and the school is brand new, so I'm slowly learning what to expect. :) There was a new person playing with the kids today: of course I want to know who's taking care of my kiddo, but it sounds like it's not the norm to do a formal introduction of assistants.

I don't think I would expect it, unless my LO's primary caretaker was changed.

I work at a largish Montessori preschool and we always send communication about new staff, although it's not necessarily right away. Sometimes we get busy and its a week or so later.

Turnover at daycares are so common, unfortunately. We're only informed if a lot of people change around the same time

We've gotten formal announcements anytime there's been a head teacher change, but I don't think I've seen anything formal for the assistant teachers. There tends to be a lot more turnover there. But they've always introduced themselves the first time I've met them.

Do you expect your daycare/preschool directors to introduce new staff?

We just started at a brand new school last month (small Montessori daycare/preschool). We were never officially introduced to the teacher's assistants, but they have proven to be excellent, and our daughter loves them. This morning, another new assistant was there.

It's a state registered school, so I think everyone must be vetted? I just assumed we'd get an email or even a verbal, "Hey, here are our new helpers!" ... Is this expecting too much? Or, are staff turnovers or new people relatively ignored?
