We live in the suburbs so not a lot of walking. With DD #1, we used her Peg Perego infant car seat + Maclaren stroller frame combi from birth till about 18 months. We also have a Bugaboo Bee which manouvers like a dream! We bought a Maclaren Triumph (umbrella style stroller) when she was 4 months old cos we took a trip. She's 31 months old now and the most use we got out of both strollers were during the trips that we took and for walks around the neighborhood. She ain't going to be strap in if we are ever at the mall :P

For my twins, I wanted to adopt the same approach and purchashed a Baby Trebd double stroller frame but I absolutely HATED it! It was like a long boat that is impossible to manouver!!!! I was so fed up with it and decided to do research on strollers which cn accomodate two infant car seats and ended up with Baby Jogger's City Select Double Stroller. It is not cheap but money so well spent since it is a breeze to manouver.

Note: regarding manouvering, I meant at the grocery store or malls, not beaches, walking trails or hiking terrains :)

It all boils down to personal preference imo. I've used all sorts of strollers in my years as a nanny, and my favorite stroller I've used is the Orbit G2 which costs a pretty penny (starts at $750 and goes up from there). We are going to be using that stroller bc we know we will be happy with it and are more than willing to pay a pretty penny to use something I know that I already love and I am sure my husband will love too.

You absolutely get what you pay for. With DS1, we had a cheap Graco stroller that we HATED! I wasn't sure, when initially buying a stroller, if a more expensive one would be worth the heftier cost and if we would use it that much. I could stand that stroller, and we ended up getting a Baby Jogger 7 months later. There's a night and day difference between the two, and I'm so glad we upgraded. Now that we have two LOs, we have a City Select, and although I was nervous about the $800 price tag, once again, it's worth every penny!

Yea we love our expensive b ready stroller web though we just use it for short shopping trips. We love that the car seat snaps into it and it's really easy to push.

we have a britax b ready and a britax b nimble (umbrella stroller), I would say definitely worth it. both are click and go systems with the chaperone infant carrier. Bonus: The b ready converts to a double stroller, so we won't have to spend loads money on a second set of strollers when we are ready for #2, just purchase an attachment.

We also barely use our stroller but we live in the suburbs so that's a different story than city life. If you will use the stroller a lot then it's fine to buy an expensive one but then I would make absolutely sure it is the one that fits all of your needs vs spending less money and maybe buying 2 strollers that you can alternate depending on where you are going.

I have an UB Vista. Best money ever spent. BUT we don't drive a lot of places and then use the stroller AND we didn't want a travel system and we never would have used anything (attachment included) that let us click in the infant car seat. The Vista does have an attachment for the car seat.

We also have a lightweight umbrella style stroller for travel.

We barely use our stroller. LO is 9.5 months old and we either carry her or use our Ergo. I'm sure we'll use the stroller more when she's older.. but we probably will never use an expensive one.

@Crumbs: We live in tokyo and there are a couple of private mail forwarding services that will forward large packages here from the US. For the stroller, we used a service called wesendtoyou. We ordered the bugaboo bee from the bugaboo site and had them ship to the company. It ended up costing less than $200 for shipping the stroller plus a lot of other baby things. The guy who owns the service is able to negotiate shipping fees with fedex or dhl. Even then, it was cheaper than buying the stroller here. We did the same for the crib. For smaller things like baby clothes and stuff, we just have my mom or sister forward it to us. Also, amazon will ship certain things directly here.

Depending on what country you are living in, there might be a local company that will ship things for you.

Sweden's excellent when it comes to car seat laws. The Britaxes they sell their are fantastic, so much so that we use a Swedish Britax in our car.

In the end, I think you get what you pay for. It was really important for me to have an infant seat with a 5 point harness (the majority are 3 point, including the best selling Maxi Cosi). We based our stroller purchase on compatibility with the car seat, which I highly recommend. The stroller that caused me to have stroller envy is the TFK Joggster Twist. We ended up buying it!

@Crumbs: Isn't Sweden really, really strict about safety standards though? Maybe that's one of the reasons they are so much more expensive?

I live abroad too (UK) and we also chose to buy a US stroller and carseat. For us, it made sense because the US ones are tested to a higher safety standard than the UK ones. I wasn't really willing to pay more for one that I wasn't sure was just as safe.

@looch: I live abroad and prices run maybe 4x more here in Sweden - ouch! Hearing your story makes me opt for a cheaper one, just in case it ends up not working for us. Thanks for your response!

@mynoahbear: I thought about buying a stroller in the States but didn't think it was possible because of the weight. Plus, I would have to send it as a gift (via my Mom) or else customs will tax me ridiculously! My Mom pays $5 per lb on a large box (if it's light stuff, she saves money compared to the smaller flat-rate priority boxes for $50). But I tried looking up shipping cost on USPS for a bouncer I wanted and it said it was too big to send.

Can I ask what service you used?

we live abroad too and strollers here are really expensive too, especially imported brands. it actually was more beneficial for us to order our stroller in the US and have it shipped here through a service because of the weak dollar value. doing that was actually cheaper than buying the exact same stroller here.

IIRC, you live abroad, right? I do as well, and the strollers are about twice as expensive as in the US. I was stunned. I tried to spend less and order a model that we could use for DS the entire time and was compatible with our car seat...long story short, we ended up buying a second stroller that fit our needs better.

P.S. I'm usually a cheapskate and don't care about brands but when it comes to my LO, it all goes out the door! It's a known brand for a reason, right? Security, dependability ... all that? Or am I just being suckered into it?

Where we live, strollers are really expensive compared to cribs. I knew this from the start and have been bracing myself for the sticker shock. But now that the time's closer to comparing models, I can't seem to get over the price.

Before I go on, I understand it's all about lifestyle - a person in the city has very different needs from someone living out in the country. People here use their strollers everyday just to take the LO for a walk, the weather is unpredictable so they come equipped for the elements. The daycares require you to have a pram type stroller to put the babies into for sleeping outside (more on this later). Strollers (prams) go for $1300 for a decent well-known stroller, that's not even top of the line. I once found a floor model during a moving sale for $570, but that was a one-time deal and I wasn't pregnant then.

Putting all that aside, is it better to buy a couple of inexpensive strollers vs one that converts? Is it even possible to stick with one stroller with a fussy baby?

Was it worth it for you to buy an expensive, brand-named stroller that you can use from infant to toddler? Does brand really matter? I'm guessing that buying a few different strollers would equal to about the same price as one expensive one. I'd love to hear your ideas!

Thanks so much!
